On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Just Fine and Achievement Of Youth, two new singles from Zoe Sky Jordan’s forthcoming album, Selfish, have just been released.

Just Fine and Acievement Of Youth

Before the release of her new album, Selfish, Zoe Sky Jordan has dropped a double singles release, with Just Fine and Achievement Of Youth out now. Zoe’s new music emphasizes acknowledgement, forgiveness, understanding and self-acceptance.

This album’s musical influences include Soccer Mom, Snail Mail, and Ethan Gruska. Rob Shnapf (Kurt Vile, Elliot Smith) mixed the first two singles from the forthcoming album, Just Fine and Achievement Of Youth. Liam Russell was the producer.

Just Fine, a jammy and angsty track with sloshy guitar, bouncing drums, and hypnotic, soaring vocals, steps into a bolder and more brazen persona, with lyrics: “I always live up to the hype, never crack under pressure”.

Zoe tells us that Carrie Fisher’s very powerful words were the source of the inspiration for Achievement Of Youth. As time goes on, you become more aware of who you are as an individual and are content just being you. “Youth and beauty are not accomplishments,” said Carrie. “They’re the temporary happy by-products of time and / or DNA.  Don’t hold your breath for either.”

Zoe Sky Jordan

Zoe, who is the daughter of the acclaimed artists, songwriters, and producers Marc Jordan and Amy Sky, witnessed firsthand the differences that exist between successful men and women in the music industry. The harsh judgments directed at her “not so stay at home” mother had an effect on Zoe, who was just a young child at the time. In many of the 13 songs on the full Selfish album, which will be out in spring 2023, she expresses those emotions. Themes that abound include acknowledgment, forgiveness, understanding, and self-acceptance. This album takes you through every emotion and delivers the message “Be at peace with yourself” at the end.

Zoe has shared the stage with a variety of performers, including Marlon Williams, Ohmme, Madi Diaz, Molly Pardon, Savannah Conley, Andrew Combs, Jezzie Baylin, and others, which has provided her with numerous memorable experiences and career highlights. She enjoys working with artists of all genres, and in 2020, she collaborated with Kayobe (Cadence Music) for his song “No Sympathy,” which was the lead single from his album, and with Robby Hecht, a Nashville folk star, for his song “Ferris Wheel.”

Her 2015 EP TOPIARY reached the top 10 at college radio in the United States. The music video for one of the album’s first singles, “Powerlines,” was nominated for a CSC award. Zoe’s songs have been featured on a plethora of television shows, including Lost Girl, Riverdale, Finding Carter, Less Than Kind, Hockey Night in Canada, and Hallmark. You may be familiar with her. Canadian Tire’s award-winning Christmas ads featured her covers of “True Colors” and “Love Is All Around” for two years in a row.

Selfish

The new album’s title track, “Selfish,” begins with echoing, eerie piano and synths before a confession in the style of a diary reveals a major theme of Zoe Sky Jordan’s new album.

The album is reflective, introspective, investigative, and dissective. It was written during the pandemic, when Zoe and her husband lived with her parents for seven months. Similarly that a significant number of us acquired point of view whenever we had to stand by, Zoe’s journey home, after years out on her own residing in Toronto and Nashville, gave her open-minded perspectives and ears to embrace another temper.

Zoe Sky Jordan has so much more to come, leading up to the Spring 2023 release of Selfish.
