On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, new indie pop single, Chinatown by Brooklyn-based Middle Part featuring Yuno, explores experiences of burnout.

Middle Part featuring Yuno

Chinatown

New punk-influenced indie pop single, Chinatown, by Brooklyn-based Middle Part featuring Yuno, is all about dealing with burnout brought on by living in a big city. The track is a varied collection of mutilated guitars, translucent synths, and anthemic vocals.

Yuno, a friend and fellow artist, joins the band and contributes a verse and backing vocals to the song’s roaring hook. Together, they deal with the constant conflict between wanting to leave New York City and staying there.

In addition, shortly after the song’s official release, a fully animated video directed by Glendon and Isabella was released to accompany the track.

Middle Part

Middle Part, a Brooklyn-based indie pop artist, aims to make you feel something with his synth-heavy music. The music, which was written with honesty and sincerity, draws inspiration from alternative bands from the 1990s and early 2000s.

When singer Andrew Selkōw was forced to retreat from his reality due to a severe depression, Middle Part was born. Andrew spent months folding boxes at a local pizza place after moving from Nashville to Alaska not only to “find himself,” but also to learn how to live with himself. He started writing songs just to get by in this monotonous and lonely situation. Since collaborating with producer and collaborator Brian Zaremba, those same songs, which were written during a dark period, have gained new clarity.

I Wish I Was Alive, Middle Part’s first six-track EP, is heavily influenced by his personal experiences, struggles, battle with depression, dissociation, and overall loss. Understanding death, aging, mental instability, and self-reflection are at the heart of the record.

Selkōw wanted to make sure he let go of his ego before he pursued music again, so that’s a big theme in this record as well as the inability to connect, especially when you’re compartmentalizing everything all of the time. With this set of songs, Selkōw wanted to be really open and vulnerable. He hates to show how sensitive he is, but it just bleeds into all of his music.

When you listen to Middle Part, it’s like reading one of Selkōw’s journal entries and discovering all the conversations he has with himself every day. Selkōw simply wants people to relate. He wants to connect so badly, and that might be the message: art is important in any way you choose to approach it. Simply create because there is no age limit or formula. It’s the most rehabilitative therapy I’ve ever had.
