Samantha Kennedy

Victor Paul Bennett, writing under the pseudonym Samantha Kennedy, embarked on his literary journey in November 2020, just before his seventy-first birthday, during the second Covid lockdown.

I am a retired electrical engineer and spent thirty three years in the generation and transmission sectors; initially for the Central Electricity Generating Board and latterly the National Grid. I struggled with English at school and the thought of having to compose an essay filled me with dread. However, in my profession it was incumbent on me to compile reports, switching and commissioning programs on the high voltage transmission system. These were lengthy documents, which for safety and system security, had to be comprehensive, accurate and unambiguous, but never in my wildest dreams did I believe that one day I would write a book.

It took me two years to finish Yuletide Blessing, and the book stretched to over 928,000 words. This placed it almost 60% longer than War and Peace, and a good 60% longer than The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit combined. I have had to split the book into four parts, and the first part of the tetralogy, called The Coming, was released early in December 2023.

I reside in Alton, which is a town in Hampshire bordering the village of Chawton, where Jane Austen lived in the later years of her life, and where she penned most of her books. I am a great fan and have read her books many times. There are lines and passages in my book that pay homage to her writing; none more so than a play, which is scripted in the book by a seven year old girl, and loosely based on a scene from Mansfield Park.
