Rumours Of Magic

Aimed at readers aged twelve and above, fantasy book, Rumours Of Magic by L R Attridge, blends darkness and light with machinery and sorcery.

Set in a world where an Arthurian age is on the threshold of an industrial revolution, creatures and races from mythology live alongside the people, Wimlett, a good but flawed wizard, has hs life was disrupted and prematurely ended by a faulty Life-Timer. The Timer was bought in a batch from a traveller by Death, who had gone on holiday leaving his novice assistant to sort it out. Wimlett was Archchancellor of the magical Havrapsor University, and was replaced by a scheming wizard who’d been maligning him for years to get his job.

Seventeen years later, Wimlett’s daughter Eydith fights to clear his name and bring an end to his successor’s reign and his attempts to find the powerful artefact that will make him unstoppable.

Original, page-turning and providing a great role for Death Himself, Rumours Of Magic is a well-constructed story that requires attention from its readers in order for the nuanced narrative to have full effect. Eloquently bridging the literary gap that exists when writing for young adult readers and those adults who love to read a good fantasy tale, Rumours of Magic will be devoured by existing fans of fantasy literature; as well as those looking for something a little dark but with a humorous touch in their reading choices.

L R Attridge

I have been writing for many years now, and on the advice of a friend who read the manuscript of Rumours Of Magic (who is a published author in a non-fiction genre), I recently decided to publish. Having been writing for so long I have a number of follow-on books in The Chronicles Of Crett, as the series is called.

I was born in London, but moved to Cornwall so long ago that I feel more Cornish than Londoner these days. Here in Cornwall, I continue to write and edit these comedy fantasy books. I’ve loved this genre forever, and it’s a great pleasure to be adding to it in my own way.
