On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, in Warrior’s Blood by Melissa Barker-Simpson, a hardened vampire and a protective angel ignite a forbidden passion while battling to defend a besieged safe zone.
Warrior’s Blood
With fourteen self-published novels under her belt, Melissa Barker-Simpson is a seasoned storyteller with a knack for crafting captivating worlds. Warrior’s Blood, the inaugural installment in her The Collective series, is a testament to her ability to blend action, romance, and the supernatural into a thrilling narrative.
This unconventional love story introduces Kristen Baracas, a hardened vampire with a complex past, and Joshua, a noble warrior angel. Their paths collide in a battle for survival, their attraction igniting a dangerous passion that complicates their mission. Barker-Simpson skillfully explores themes of duty, desire, and the blurred lines between good and evil.
Warrior’s Blood is a refreshing take on the vampire genre, showcasing the author’s talent for creating complex, relatable characters and weaving intricate plotlines. As Kristen and Joshua navigate a world fraught with danger, readers are drawn into a high-stakes adventure filled with unexpected twists and turns.

This series is a prequel of sorts to The Fractured Collection. It starts at the beginning of the war and explores how the world changes. It is a big, beautiful and complex world, so you can expect other series as part of the collection.
Warrior’s Blood is the first in ‘The Collective’ series and the third volume – Warrior’s Promise – was published at the start of July 2024. It is my fourteenth self-published novel.
I have been writing since I was old enough to hold a pen. As a child I wrote plays, or perhaps the better description would be performances which I acted out for my family, usually dragging my sister into the show or forcing her to act out improvised scenes from our favourite cartoons.
I also wrote short stories and started a dozen novels which unfortunately did not see the light of day. Again, I involved (read tortured) my family and friends, who proved their loyalty because those earlier tales, though an outlet for all the grand adventures playing out in my head, were, shall we say, rough around the edges!
Since self-publishing, my first novel in 2008 I haven’t looked back. I’m fond of all the characters who take up space in my head and enjoy sharing them, hopefully providing a little of the joy they bring to me.
Family is a strong theme throughout my stories and I’m fortunate to have some excellent role models.
As well as being a writer, I’m also a British Sign Language interpreter, and professional supervisor
