On The Table Read ebook Magazine UK, Ukrainian baritone Yuriy Yurchuk holds fundraising events across the UK for the people of Ukraine.
The UK artistic community has come together to face the threat of war in Europe, and it is our duty to keep spreading the word and rallying the support until the peace is restored.
The Royal Opera House – Concert for Ukraine – will take place on 15 April on the main stage. Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv joins Music Director of The Royal Opera Antonio Pappano to conduct singers including Ukrainian baritone Yuriy Yurchuk, Ukrainian tenor Dmytro Popov, South African soprano Pretty Yende, and British-Italian tenor Freddie De Tommaso.
All net proceeds from this event will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) for Ukraine, including optional donations made to the Royal Opera House.
On 10 April at the theatre at Rudolf Steiner House, an array of performers – including Yuriy Yurchuk, will perform a mixed repertoire of Russian and Ukrainian works, inviting world-wide condemnation of the Russian invasion into Ukraine and appealing for peace, raising support for refugees through DEC.
Yuriy Yurchuk, UK-based Ukrainian baritone, appeals for support for Ukraine and refugees fleeing the conflict at multiple events across the country. Being one of the first Ukrainians outside 10 Downing Street at the start of the conflict on 24 February, Yuriy sang Ukrainian anthem in call for peace.
“Art has always been a way for humanity to express pain, while uniting likeminded people at the face of disastrous events. I hope our voices will be heard by the world community to support and enable our struggle against this terrible war. My family and friends are now in my native city of Kyiv alongside millions of my countrymen and women, facing the horrors of war.” said Yuriy Yurchuk.
On 9 March, Yuriy together with a group of artists spearheaded by Bob Geldof and Bloom twins, came together at the Night for Ukraine, a fundraising event at the Roundhouse, London. Funds raised were donated to DEC, Disasters Emergency Committee, to support humanitarian and emergency response work in Ukraine.
On 22 March, Southbank centre – at the Royal Festival Hall hosted a fundraising event with proceeds going to support the Disasters Emergency Committee’s (DEC’s) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. Among the performers were Ben Whishaw, Jonathan Pryce, Yuriy Yurchuk, Dinara Klinton, mezzo-soprano Ksenia Nikolaeva.
On 2 April, the Wales and Ukraine Concert was held at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and broadcasted live on S4C. The concert was organised in collaboration with DEC Cymru to raise funds for DEC Cymru’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal featuring baritone Yuriy Yurchuk, tenor Gwyn Hughes Jones, Côr y Cwm, Côr Glanaethwy, and the Aberystwyth School Plascrug Choir.
To date, Yurchuk has graced stages from the Kennedy Centre Awards in front of President Obama, through to Buckingham and Windsor Palaces for the Royal Family, and the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood LA party hosted by academy award winner Goldie Hawn.
He won international competitions in the US, Norway, Spain and Italy. Yuriy has made radio and television appearances including a voice over for a song in the acclaimed BBC War and Peace series, performed for BBC Radio 3 In tune and Shakespeare Live celebration.
Yuriy Yurchuk, remains a prolific performer with plans to return to the RoH, title roles in Belgium, Japan, France, and his native Ukraine. Whether from his viral Frozen Instagram covers or his run of Toscas at the RoH, Yuriy remains an inspirational and technically accomplished performer set to continue his path with a run of La Traviata at RoH and as Carlo Gerard in Andrea Chenier at Southbank Centre, on 29 May 2022.
Born in Ukraine, forever obsessed with music, he had to battle his way to make his passion for singing a reality. Having to initially pick finance trade to support the family, he never forgot his true aspirations. The artist sang where he could only to be told as a child that he did not have what it takes.
After years as M&A financial advisor with PwC in Chicago, a good friend took him to his very first opera and helped him to discover his true voice. It was love at first sight. Having studied Vocal Performance at DePaul University School of Music, Yuriy quickly began winning competition after competition, and ultimately got invited to join the Royal Opera House Young Artist Program in London.
