On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, in two-part Easy Bait and Dodgy Dates series, Dawn Martin’s stories about protagonist Chloe will resonate with all of those who have swiped right on an online dating site.
Dawn Martin’s two part Easy Bait And Dodgy Dates book series, Plenty More Fish and His Other Child, have garnering significant praise from readers both here and in the US. From the outset, it is clear that Dawn Martin is not only a great storyteller but is one that isn’t afraid of pushing boundaries.
Her books share the story of protagonist Chloe’s journey through the good, bad and ugly aspects of online dating, and will resonate with readers who themselves have embraced the internet as a means of finding love. This two-part book series leaves readers under no illusions as to the potential pitfalls that are associated with finding love in this manner informed by Martin’s own experiences and meticulous research.
This series comes with a content advisory warning and is not for those in search of some saccharin and happy ever escapism. Rather, it is being devoured by those looking for an authentic and honest narrative.
When Pete leaves Chloe for another woman, she is forced to raise their family alone. When an impromptu internet pop up leads her to a dating site, she naively believes she has found the perfect way of finding love again. After meeting a string of unlikely suitors, she finally meets Mel, but unbeknown to her, Mel is fighting his own demons, and things are about to get a lot more complicated.
Plenty More Fish pushes the boundaries as it follows Chloe on a dark and dangerous journey that sees her wade her way through a sea of sociopaths in her desperate quest to find her soulmate. As she ventures into deeper waters, friends and colleagues become increasingly concerned for her safety, but will she listen to them before it’s too late?
Content advisory:
This book contains content which may be sensitive to some readers. References to stalking, sexual assault and addiction are made throughout.
When Chloe fails to find love on the internet, Maria reluctantly introduces her unlucky-in- love work colleague to her husband’s best friend Grant, with unexpected results. Grant is a good-looking man with a heart of gold, but his lack of experience with women means he is prone to making hasty decisions, often with disastrous consequences.
By the time Grant realises Chloe isn’t going to offer him the fairy-tale ending he is looking for, she drops a bombshell by announcing she is pregnant with his child. Grant already has a daughter named Crystal from his first marriage to the vibrant Amberina, and he naively believes a baby will bring him and Chloe closer together. Unwilling to bond with Crystal, Chloe quickly starts to seek attention elsewhere, and it isn’t long before her mind wanders back to her lost online dating love, Mel.
Meanwhile, Maria is having problems of her own with her husband Tom, and when a trial separation leads to a life-changing discovery about her husband’s past, she is forced to make a big decision about their future.
His Other Child is the sequel to the author’s debut novel, Plenty More Fish, and is the second book in the Easy Bait and Dodgy Dates series. Will Chloe and Grant resolve their differences and find their ‘happy ever after together? or will their search for love continue separately? This quirky, unconventional, but humorous read will keep you guessing, and the ending might just surprise you!
Readers can relate to her stories because much of the content has been extracted from her own life experiences. As a result of this there is a trigger warning on Amazon so that readers can decide if the book is right for them. Plenty More Fish was loosely based on her real life experiences while internet dating and it contains some challenging themes. To counteract this, it is also very humorous in parts. One reviewer commented ‘I laughed until my mascara ran.’
