On The Table Read, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, at the Tony Awards 2022, actor Myles Frost wins the award for Best Musical Actor for his role as Michael Jackson in the hit musical MJ.
At this year’s Tony Awards – the Oscars of the US musical and theatre scene – Myles Frost won the award for Best Musical Actor for his role in ‘MJ’. The 22-year-old embodies the music legend Michael Jackson in the Broadway hit.
The newcomer beat out two veterans of the theatre and film scene: Hugh Jackman (nominated for ‘The Music Man’) and Billy Crystal (nominated for ‘Mr. Saturday Night’), who also entered the race as Best Male Musical Actor.
The Michael Jackson musical ‘MJ’ was one of the favourites at this year’s Tony Awards with a total of ten nominations. In addition to the award for Best Leading Actor, the show also won in the musical categories ‘Best Sound Design’, ‘Best Choreography’ and ‘Best Lighting Design’.
The Broadway show, which premiered in December 2021, takes viewers on Michael Jackson’s ‘Dangerous World Tour’, accompanied by 25 of his greatest musical hits.
The award for best Broadway musical was won this year by ‘A Strange Loop’. The play tells the story of a gay black usher who dreams of making Broadway history with his own musical. Michael R. Jackson, who is not related to the pop legend, was awarded for the script of ‘A Strange Loop’ in the category ´Best Book of a Musical´.
The award for Best Female Lead in a musical went to Joaquina Kalukango for her role in ‘Paradise Square’. With Frost, Jackson and Kalukango, three black artists were honoured this year.
