The Japanese-based British artist Scott Wade has released “My Sting Machines” in conjunction with his short film “Lots of Love.” The instrumental evokes a sense of displacement thanks to its rich palette of sounds and tones, experimental melodies, and layered textures.
Scott Wade is a Tokyo-based producer and writer whose most recent projects combine music and short films. Which means that Wade incorporates a variety of techniques for manipulating time into his writing, giving each song a predetermined structure based on the story that goes along with it. Wade’s writing relies heavily on structure to shift mood and tone across tracks, contributing to his distinctive progressive electronic sound.
His most recent work began as a pitch to a Tokyo-based fashion brand. They developed the concept of a narrator reading very brief stories in a dark room with the help of videographer Matthew Sperzel. The latest project was born when Wade and Sperzel independently shot the videos. Over the course of 2022, most of the result was formed.
Wade relied solely on his own gauge to determine direction and track completion because he wanted to be driven by his own ideas. He explained that each day he would sit down and listen to it with fresh ears on a comfortable listening setup. After that, he would listen for anything that didn’t fit that gauge and work on it again until it did.
Following his debut album, Sew, in 2022, “My Sting Machines” and the short film Lots If Love are the first singles from his new project. “My Sting Machines” was the result of the artist being particularly drawn to a single cyclical piano line. The instrumental evokes a sense of displacement thanks to its rich palette of sounds and tones, experimental melodies, and layered textures. Wade explained that as with the short story, he was thinking about fighting with something natural and inevitable.
The location of the filming of Lots of Love was a forgotten phone box that was placed on a lawn and surrounded by beautiful, lush vegetation. Wade said that they wanted to shoot there because the place says a lot about them. You just want to get lost there for a while because it is such a stunning location.
The story of a worn-out and salaried man seeking advice from his memory is told in the short film. Located in between the worlds of a lonely phone booth in a sea of overgrown green and a quiet, blue room. Teddy, played by Arthur Barlow, is defeated and slumps into the phone line. Beyond their physical symptoms, a “pain on the front part of your head,” Teddy is unable to describe his feelings. While Memory, played by Ora Margolis, comes marginally perplexed by his call however looks to uncover to Teddy the objects of his stomach muscle sentiments.
Wade went on to say that the movie was a pretty pure experience that just happened naturally. Certainly, the location of the phone booth served as the primary focus of the video. The remainder of the concepts were sparked by that.
Wade worked on a few short films and video games, as well as music for commercials and television shows for companies like McNai Magazine and New Balance. His collection Sew got some accomplishment among free voices of the Instagram music local area like Earfeeder. With his miniseries of short films and stories paired with original music, Wade begins a new era in 2023.
