Matty Reynolds

Born and raised just outside New York City as the youngest of four siblings, Reynolds’ passion for music sparked early. At five, he was belting out The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go” while bouncing on his bed. Late nights sneaking peeks at Justin Bieber busking videos over his big sister’s shoulder and singing pop duets with her to Katy Perry, Maroon 5, and Miley Cyrus shaped his musical roots. By age 10, a gifted keyboard and guitar set him on a path to self-taught musicianship.

Reynolds’ rise to prominence began on TikTok in 2019, where he cautiously shared cover songs on a secret account, too shy to perform for anyone beyond family. As his following grew, so did his confidence, fueled by praise from fans and friends alike. A pivotal moment came after his first heartbreak, pushing him to write original music. While early songs leaned into sadness, Reynolds soon pivoted to crafting joyful, escapist tracks that lifted his spirits. This shift birthed his 2021 breakout single, “(another) hotel party,” a carefree anthem that exploded on TikTok and amassed nearly 12 million streams, earning critical and commercial acclaim.

Remaining fiercely independent, Reynolds has since released a string of compelling singles, building anticipation for Somebody Like Me. The six-song EP, due early summer 2025, centers on his long-distance relationship, exploring both the challenges of separation and the hope that keeps it thriving. “Timbuktu” sets the tone with its optimistic narrative, weaving introspective lyrics with infectious melodies. Collaborating with Hoffman and Tongren, Reynolds crafts a sound that’s both deeply personal and universally relatable.
