My latest book is called ‘The Luminosity Of Energy’. It’s a book about people’s lives and how magic criss-crosses into our lives, even when we are facing tough times.
I was inspired to write this book because I was facing a difficult situation but could see that synchronicity was at play and thought I would write a story that showcased this type of phenomenon. The book is intended for people to relate to, but it also has humour in it to make people smile, even if they are facing a tough time. My hope, too, is that it will make readers feel like they are not alone in whatever they may be facing.
The creative writing process can be very smooth – I allow the books to write themselves and try not to interfere – I just support by capturing the stories I see as best I can. I get very emotional about what happens to the characters and what their lives are doing to them. Stories come to me if I open the gateway to creation and I am very grateful for this.
When the inspiration for a book first hits, I am usually pretty taken aback, because most of the books I’ve written are not ones I had planned to write. For example, there is a book I am currently working on, and it came to me when I went to see a friend playing in a concert. To be honest, it was the first time in a long time I had had an opportunity to rest and I was resting my head against a pillar in the beautiful venue the concert was being played in, grateful for some time to just be entertained by lovely music, however, suddenly I started to see a whole plot for a book – very unexpectedly. Well, I say ‘whole plot’, but books are very clever – they show you something initially to make you sign up to the deal, but you never really know what’s going to be in store 😊 I haven’t had much time to work on this particular book yet and I can’t wait for the opportunity to continue writing it.
Life as a writer can get very busy – particularly if writing is not your actual job that pays an income. Writing is necessarily time-intensive, so it’s hard to squeeze it in when there are all the usual, other demands on your schedule. I remember, after I wrote my first book, ‘The Book of Stamps’, I couldn’t face writing the sequel at that time, as I knew that I would have to live and breathe the sequel as I had done the first book and that can be quite a massive task to take on.
At the moment, I have three books published and two in publication, which means a lot of proofreading and promotional activities happening all at the same time, which is why there is no time to actually write just now, at the weekends or after work. I hadn’t expected this as I haven’t been in this situation before. So, writing a book in intensive, yes, but if you choose to write, be prepared for everything else that comes with it afterwards 😊. All of that can be very intensive too.
If you do embark on a writing adventure, think about the cover of your book. It might be a good idea to ask people to model your book cover, or you could set up some items you think would be suitable for your cover and take a photo of them. Using photos like this can then enable you to derive your book cover from a solid starting point. Otherwise, it can be difficult to explain to an illustrator what’s in your head.
The huge joy in writing (apart from the deliciousness of penning a story, itself) is the reaction from readers and the encouragement from friends and family. I love surprising my family with a new book, and I love hearing from them and my friends after they’ve read the books – it’s amazing to hear how excited they are about the stories and how they feel about the stories and characters.
It’s also wonderful to read reviews people write of the books I’ve written. Everyone has a different interpretation of what they read – they make their own movie in their head – and I love to hear people’s interpretations of my books. I have a YouTube video featuring a poem about this sort of thing which you can view:
I had two books released recently – ‘The Luminosity of Crystals & Dimensions of the Heart’ and ‘The Luminosity of Energy’. ‘The Luminosity of Energy’ is technically a sequel to ‘The Luminosity of Crystals’, but can also be read as a standalone book. I have seen some people buying the sequel when they have not read the first book and I find this cute. It will be very interesting to hear from all the different readers who have either read one or both books and their experiences of reading them in order, or the other way around, or just one of the books. I look forward to it with anticipation and intrigue. That kind of thing ends up entertaining and delighting me which is one of the many completely unexpected results of writing books. When the books first come to me and throughout the time I am busy working on them, I am absorbed in the world/s I am taken to, so I don’t have time to wonder about how people will feel when they start to visit those worlds themselves. It’s all very exciting.
Hard work, yes. But great rewards and a lot of satisfaction.
And, hopefully, extremely delightful for the dear readers who pick up the books I write to read them.
With love,
Vidya
