On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK”, Ryan McGinnis is thrilled to announce the release of The Silent Death, the latest in his John Wick-meets-James Bond thriller series featuring Xavier Greene, despite facing personal challenges and delays!
I recently celebrated the release of my latest novel, “The Silent Death.” The novel is the fifth in my Xavier Greene Thriller series, which started with “Tears of the Dragon.” I can best describe the series as John Wick meets James Bond, and it keeps growing more bonkers with each installment. However, this latest edition almost didn’t happen. In late 2023, I published the second of two books that I released that year, “The Firefly Collective.” Afterward, I intended to take a short break before beginning the synopsis that would eventually become my next book. Then, life started getting in the way.
At first, I was happily distracted by the beginning of the holiday season. I’m a big proponent of Halloween, so I embraced the season. In the meantime, I began working on ideas for the next book. Then we hit November, and the holidays kicked into full gear. Since I also run my own web design business, I got tied up in end-of-year business obligations. During all of that, the synopsis got pushed to the back burner. Then, the really big news hit.
In December, my wife found out she had a mass that could potentially be cancerous and would have to have surgery to remove it. Our anxiety went through the roof. This was our first brush with cancer, and our already overloaded mental burden became almost unbearable. I find that in times of stress, it becomes almost impossible to do creative tasks. My brain won’t do it. During all of this, I continued to work on piecing the synopsis together, and in January 2024, I started writing again when I could.
While dealing with the medical drama in our lives, the deadline kept getting pushed back. Originally, I intended for the next book to launch in March or April of 2024. That quickly became late April, then May. By March, I was writing the manuscript. In April, my wife went in for surgery, and I spent most of my time helping her recover. Once she got the all-clear, I focused solely on writing, even though, at that point, I faced the fact that the book would not be ready to launch in May. I didn’t want it to launch in June or July. My thought was that people mostly worry about vacations during that time. After much thought on the subject, I decided to draw a metaphoric line in the sand. I released the official title to my social media accounts and announced a presale on Amazon, with the release date set for August 12, 2024.
Having the deadline set in stone had the effect that I wanted. With a firm deadline, I worked relentlessly to finish the book. Once the writing was complete, I released the cover on Social Media and began editing. The advantage of having the launch date laid out several months allowed me to finish the book and send it to ARC readers ahead of schedule. In fact, this was the smoothest, most organized launch I’ve ever had.
I learn from each one of the books that I write. When I write, I challenge myself, and because of that, I learn lessons every time. This book was no different, and I appreciate it more than any book I’ve written, except maybe my debut. With this book, I felt the depth of my valley. I felt the depression and realized I had no momentum. But, I was able to turn it around through hard work and perseverance. That’s the lesson I learned from this book: in life, I will encounter obstacles and have low points, but if I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and put in the hard work, I can overcome them.
I’m very proud of the results of all my hard work. “The Silent Death” is a unique adventure that takes Xavier Greene to Tokyo, where he vowed never to return. But, when a friend is framed for murder, Xavier is drawn into the seedy criminal underworld of Tokyo to stop a brewing war between the Yakuza and a mysterious assassin clan. This story expands on Xavier’s backstory and sheds some light on his past. I’m glad I persevered and brought this story and its characters to life.
