Ont The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, the French contender for the 37th America’s Cup, the Orient Express Team, is pleased to announce a partnership with the Italian company BasicNet and its signature brand, K-Way®, as the French Team’s official clothing supplier.
The 37th America’s Cup, the world’s oldest sporting trophy, will be up for grabs in 2024 when four of BasicNet’s brands join forces with the French Orient Express Team.
The French challenger, drove by helmsman and captain Quentin Delapierre, will be outfitted with a selective line of K-Way® technical and lifestyle clothing. The team will receive technical and casual footwear from Sebago®, shore-based sportswear from Kappa®, and a complete set of protective gear from stablemate Briko®, including helmets, goggles, and safety vests, for the sailors’ well-being.
On the challenger’s AC75, the well-known French K-Way® brand, which was established in Paris in 1965 by the visionary entrepreneur Léon-Claude Duhamel, will also be represented.
This isn’t BasicNet’s first venture into the sailing industry. The official clothing supplier of the Italian sailing team Mascalzone Latino, which competed in the America’s Cup from 2005 to 2010, was its Kappa® brand. For the Solitaire du Figaro in 2019 and 2020, the group’s footwear brand Sebago® partnered with solo skipper Alberto Bona.
In addition, Robe di Kappa® sponsored the renowned Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta, which was organized by the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez and is currently represented by the Orient Express Team for the 37th America’s Cup, from 2010 to 2015.
K-Way® was repositioned as a lifestyle brand after it was acquired by the BasicNet group in 2004. It is currently rekindling its relationship with sport, which it has supported heavily in the past, most notably by working with the French Alpine skiing team for the Albertville Olympic Games in 1992. K-Way® quickly established itself as the best accessory for sportswear. Today, the company that became famous for its windbreaker that could be worn with a belt around the waist is back in the spotlight.
K-Challenge
Stéphan Kandler, founder, and president of K-Challenge, now known as Orient Express Team shared that they are thrilled to have the well-known French brand K-Way® aboard. Orient Express is essential for France’s legacy and design heritage.
They are grateful to K-Way® for being a supporter and for their early involvement. On these new flying boats, they need profoundly specialized and solid clothes that can adapt to rates of north of 100 km/h. We will also provide our fans with an exciting and stylish selection of products, supported by Sebago®, Kappa®, and Briko®!
BasicNet Vice President Lorenzo Boglione is extremely pleased to be Orient Express’s sponsor of the French team competing for the America’s Cup. The America’s Cup is the oldest sporting trophy in the world, with a legendary history that has been shaped by great athletes, performance, and technology for 172 years. K-Way® is made for sailing, which shields you from the wind and water. After their experience with Mascalzone Latino in 2007, they are thrilled to participate in this competition once more because it perfectly complements our brands.
