How and why did you start podcasting?

What started out as an idea for a Nat Geo TV show turned into a podcast concept during the pandemic – which became the perfect format to “travel” around the world meeting people changing the world and learning about this planet we all share.

What is your current podcast called, and how did you come up with the name?

The Global Good Podcast. It’s the product of thinking about what we want to accomplish – ultimately creating a network of people that are doing good in the world, and spreading those stories, resources, and communities around the world.

What platforms can we find The Global Good Podcast on?

YouTube ,Spotify, Apple, Stitcher, and all other major podcast platforms.

What is The Global Good Podcast about?

Giving people the resources they need to make the world a better place by introducing them to fascinating people, places and topics that make for great interviews and storytelling.

Do you host The Global Good Podcast alone, or have guest hosts/partners?

I host alone, but every other episode is an interview and includes one or more guests.

Do you edit The Global Good Podcast or have someone who does it for you?

Willpower Productions is our producer.

Do you script The Global Good Podcast, or just chat as you go?

Both. The Diversion episodes are well scripted, but the interviews involve a general outline of topics we’ll cover – and then let the conversation go where it will.

How has The Global Good Podcast changed or developed since you began?

We’ve made several important changes, all based on learning experiences and feedback. In fact, we just did a rebrand that we’re really excited to roll out in the next two weeks. But our biggest pivots have been adding the Diversion episodes every other week. They’re a nice bridge between interviews, and will likely grow and evolve in the coming months.

What are you biggest challenges with The Global Good Podcast?

Consistency. Podcasting, especially difficult topics like we pursue take time and care. It could easily be a full-time job, and it isn’t for me. To give each issue, person, and geographic location the thoughtfulness and care they deserve has kept us from following through on consistent delivery on more than one occasion. The other issue is constantly changing global dynamics.

The Global Good Podcast

What are your favourite podcasts to listen to?

Last Podcast on The Left, My Favorite Murder, Not Past It.

How and where do you promote The Global Good Podcast?

We’ve been terrible at this! Thus far we’ve only used social media and our live shows to promote our work. But in 2022 we’re going be doing a lot more video and social promotions. And, swapping stories and interviews with other podcasts to help grow similarly aligned purpose-driven shows.

Do you earn money from podcasting, or is it a hobby?

I wish. It’s a hobby for now, but we’d love to turn it into an action-oriented platform that also raises money – not only to cover our costs, but donate to the causes and organizations we promote.

What’s something you never expected about podcasting? What have you learned that surprised you?

What an incredible, living medium it is to communicate and connect with people. Something you published 6 months ago can easily lead to a new conversation, introduction or series of meaningful ideas and relationships.

What is the first piece of advice you would give to anyone inspired to start podcasting?

First, be open to feedback. This is a growth process. Second, take whatever time commitment you think you’re in for and double it. Third, do somewhere between 3-10 episodes and take a step back.

And, finally, are you proud of what you’re accomplishing with your podcast? Is it worth the effort?

Very proud. I do believe we’re doing global good ourselves in addition to our listeners. And I know that each donation or volunteer the organizations we highlight get and email we get saying “I had no idea” or “thank you for bringing attention to this” makes it worth it.
