On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, in The Baby with Three Families, Two Countries, and One Promise, Julie Gianelloni Connor used her experiences of adopting her son from Colombia when he was 5 months old.

An International Adoption Story

Families who have successfully completed an international adoption know that it is a complicated procedure that necessitates multiple agencies and takes time, making it challenging to explain to children.

The Baby with Three Families, Two Countries, and One Promise: An International Adoption Story by Julie Gianelloni Connor

Julie Connor, an award-winning author, adopted her son from Colombia when he was five months old. Her new children’s book, The Baby with Three Families, Two Countries, And One Promise: An International Adoption Story, features Saman Chinthaka Weerasinghe’s vibrant illustrations and straightforward language used by Connor to convey a child-centered, yet realistic explanation, of the international adoption process.

Written For Children

The majority of adoption books are for parents, and in a recent interview, Connor stated that they are not appropriate for children. She was looking for a book that showed everyone involved in the adoption process: she wanted to include the biological mother, the adopting parents, the social workers, the grandparents, and even the United States consul who must issue a visa to an internationally adopted child. Her book also includes the family dog.

The story, which is meant to be read by parents of a child adopted from another country, follows the emotional journeys of the potential adoptive parents from the United States and the biological mother from another country who makes the difficult choice to give up her baby for adoption.

According to Connor, experts recommend that children be made aware of their adoption from an early age. This book, on the other hand, simplifies the complex adoption story.

The Baby with Three Families, Two Countries, and One Promise is a book for children ages 2 to 8 that introduces them to foster parents, social service workers, U.S. consuls, and grandparents, all of whom play important roles in the adoption process.

Make The Book Your Own

The adoptive parents tell their son’s story as they tuck him in at night in the book’s final pages: He has three families, two countries, and a future promise to visit his birthplace.

As adoptive parents read the story, Connor encourages them to alter the names, places, and other details to make it their own.

She advised altering the book so that it is as unique and individual as your own adoption experience. While you are adapting her book, the author is beaming.
