On The Table Read, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Sydney based artist St. Humain releases new single, Pillow, which explores the war inside your head that is often battled when you have feelings for somebody.
St. Humain is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Sydney who was born in Singapore. His music is a delicious combination of sounds and stories, and doesn’t distinguish between genres. He creates something that is both comfortingly familiar and alluringly unknown by combining pop, electronic music, and a healthy dose of R&B. St. Humain tries to portray the everyday person by writing songs that are open and relatable, talk about his own struggles, and try to figure out the feelings that make us human.
Now, he returns with Pillow, the final single before his highly anticipated EP METADRAMATIC, which is expected in 2023. This new single grew out of a co-writing session with Josh Palandi in Jakarta and evolves into tales of devotion and thought.
Channeling his dark, electro-pop energy into his next anthem, Pillow comes to life with honesty and authenticity, exploring discourses into the war inside your head that is frequently fought when you have feelings for someone. “Pillow” is yet another exceptional example of St. Humain’s remarkable storytelling abilities.
“Maybe I’m too cautious, maybe I’m too scared,” said St Humain. “But this song captures the feeling of missing somebody (again) and wanting to be close to them… I’m thinking about them when I go to sleep, and it keeps me up sometimes. But at the same time, there’s something holding me back. My own heart is holding me back. I’m such a slow burn that I’m unable to simply dive into love and need to take things very gradually. This tension between wanting anything but withholding everything became Pillow.”
St. Humain consolidates his status as an incredible multidisciplinary artist by paying tribute to his love of pop music and drawing inspiration from artists like Lauv, Dua Lipa, and Post Malone. Pillow explores the internal struggle of love, begins with St. Humain’s echoic vocal energy and then explodes into pulsating rhythms and bulging basslines. A perfect introspective late-night anthem is created when dreamy pop undertones and euphoric synthesizers are combined.
St. Humain hopes to promote Asian representation in the music industry by releasing his debut EP, EMOTIONAL SAUNA, in 2019 with Capitol Records to the acclaim of Billboard, Live Nation’s Ones to Watch, and Earmilk, to name a few. He also wants to demonstrate that the goals of a young boy from the small nation of Singapore are more than just goals.
He has racked up over a million streams since the release of his previous singles, “Memento” and “Tastes Like You,” and he has been featured on Spotify New Music Friday and Apple Music Best of the Week playlists all over the world. St. Humain is expected to have a record-breaking year in 2023. His creative potential is truly limitless, as evidenced by the fact that he is working on a new EP and releasing new clothing under his brand Emotional Sauna.
