On The Table Read, “The Best Book Reader Magazine in the UK“, Summer in Somersby is a new Francesca and Joseph De Luca Adventure from Russell Wate about siblings tracking down environmental criminals during their summer holidays.
Russell Wate’s Summer in Somersby finds Francesca DeLuca and her brother Joseph, planning a summer of exciting activities in their hometown of Somersby.
Whilst building a den in the local woods, Joseph and his friends discover the results of a crime that has taken place. Can this daring duo find the culprit?
Russell Wate’s Summer in Somersby is not only a great read but introduces its young audience to the concept of environmental crime and the importance of protecting our natural habitats.
With delightful and relatable sibling protagonists, the author has ensured his story appeals equally to boys and girls whilst the investigative side of the story is made ‘real’ due to Russell Wate’s career as a police detective.
Epitomising the need in children’s literature for books based on real and topical issues, Summer in Somersby is a compelling candidate for the school reading syllabus of 7–10-year-olds.

I spent over 30 years as a police officer, mostly as a detective. I currently carry out, write and publish reviews of safeguarding incidents.
I am the extremely proud grandfather to seven grandchildren. Their ages range from 1 year to 10 years. In
2020 I wrote a crime fiction novel ‘Greed is a powerful motive.’ After seeing this book my two eldest
grandchildren asked me to write them a book. How do you say no to your grandchildren, I certainly am not able to do so. As a result of their request, I have written this children’s story ‘Summer in Somersby.’
