Spring, 2020
During the pandemic,
April and May frosts
shrivel fruits and flowers
on lilacs, apple trees,
plums, cherries,
peaches, and magnolias.
But trillium, dame’s rocket,
dandelions, redbuds,
violets, honeysuckle,
dogwood, and azalea
proliferate.
An uneasy spirit
disrupts and pervades
towns, woods, and prairies.
People groan, crowds wail,
wrens shriek,
and coyotes howl.
