On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, singer-songwriter Flo Chase shares what inspired him to make his pop-reggae single, Found Myself, and his passion for music.
Written by JJ Barnes
I interviewed Flo Chase about his life and career, the inspiration behind his new single, Found Myself, and his creative process.
French born – Australian raised multi-instrumentalist Flo Chase is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. After leaving his home, family, and friends to follow his dreams of making it in the music industry, Chase has used the experience of moving halfway across the world and assimilating into a new culture to create some of his most emotionally driven work to date.
My connection to music began at seven after learning to play piano. This passion became even more important after, at age 12, I moved to Australia from France without knowing a word of English. Music became a way to communicate with my new surroundings, providing the comfort and familiarity I had left behind.
When I moved to Australia from France without knowing a word of English. Music became my way to communicate with new surroundings, providing the comfort and familiarity I had left behind.
My first EP ‘Le Debut”. It was mostly inspired by my experience traveling and leaving friends and family behind.
My latest single ‘Found Myself’. Growing up in ‘New-Caledonia’, being a small island in the South Pacific highly influenced by reggae and its culture; it’s been a while since I’ve been wanting to make a pop reggae record as it’s always been my favorite style of music to perform live. I wrote this song earlier this year after going through some rough couple months and finally feeling that I had “found myself” and more importantly understood that sometimes we need to experience loss or uncertainty to fully appreciate and understand ourselves, leading to a deeper love and self-discovery if that makes sense.
I would say releasing it independently and allocating the right budget towards marketing it.
I am working on finishing off a couple songs for a new record that I am extremely excited about.
Unconsciously I think I do naturally but I definitely don’t think about it and try to go with what feels right and honest at the time.
I would say my latest single and probably because it’s still somewhat fresh and I’m not over it yet!
Most definitely, lately I’ve been listening to a lot of ‘Sticky Fingers, Magic, Angus and Julia Stone, and Bob Marley’ to mention a few.
I do co-produce all of my work yes.
I play guitar and harmonica and then pretty low level drums, piano, banjo and saxophone.
Yes, I love it, it’s one of my favorite thing to do! They can keep up to date about my shows on my social media (@flochasemusic). I currently have a residency at ‘The Garland’ in Studio City every Friday evening.
Yes, it’s available everywhere under ‘Flo Chase’.
Yes, fortunately I have been able to make music my full-time job for the past couple years now.
Yes, most definitely, I have such an amazing family and friends and they’re the best!
I started writing songs at a young age so honestly, I cannot remember if there’s something that felt surprisingly unexpected.
Yes definitely, some of the shows and people I’ve been able to meet through music has been incredible.
It’s basically been my whole life since releasing my debut EP back in 2017.
Just go for it and don’t question yourself. Be vulnerable and let what needs to come out come out.
Yes it’s definitely worth all of the efforts, there’s nothing I love to do more than make music and I definitely am very grateful to be able to still do it full time today!
