On The Table Read, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Anna Emm has released new thriller, Bartholomew’s In Love, about an island guarded by a siren, a cult leader, and a missing journalist.
One of South Africa’s most prolific authors, and daughter of an award-winning South African poet and art academic, Anna Emm, has released a new thriller novel, Bartholomew’s In Love.
Conflicted protagonist Bartholomew is set to succeed his dad as head of the New Earth Cooperation cult, when a chance meeting finds him falling head over heels for the inebriating liberal writer, Alex. She persuades him to leave the cult, but Alex’s disappearance turns everything upside down. Does her investigation into the slave ship mutiny of the 18th century or the local legend of a vengeful siren have any bearing on Alex’s disappearance? Can Bartholomew rely on his closest friends and family to tell him the truth?
One of the most well-known writers in her own country is Anna Emm, and her most recent fictional work, Bartholomew’s in Love, is a fascinating, cross-genre read that serves as both a gripping mystery and a heartbreaking romance.
A contemporary novel featuring a devoted son attempting to follow in his father’s footsteps and his unexpected and life-changing encounter with an enchantress is written by the author and published on November 4, 2022. It is based on the mutiny aboard a slave ship in 1766 and its subsequent stranding on an island off the coast of South Africa.
Readers will find it difficult to put Bartholomew’s in Love down because of its evocative, suspenseful, and juxtaposition of the island’s past and present.
An island guarded by a siren… A cult community determined to keep its secrets… A missing woman, and one man’s desperate search to find her.
In 1766 mutiny broke out on the slave ship, Meermin, and it stranded on the shores of Struisbaai, South Africa. More than two centuries later, in the same place, a fisherman encountered a siren and received enlightenment…
Following the death of his father, 28-year-old Bartholomew Lorde is now set to succeed him as the leader of the New Earth Fellowship, a cult community on the isolated Strongman Island. But on the evening before his inauguration Bartholomew meets a girl on the mainland … and falls in love. Alex, a liberal journalist, convinces the lovestruck Bartholomew that there is a whole world waiting for him out there, and together they devise a plan to get him off the island and away from his uncle Mordecai’s control. But on the night they are set to escape, Alex doesn’t show up…
Now Bartholomew is in a dangerous race against time to find out what happened to her. Conflicted between his obsession with Alex and his loyalty to his father’s vision, can he trust his own mind? What is real and what is deception? And if he can’t find Alex, does he still have the courage and the means to escape the island? Does he still want to?
Anna Emm grew up surrounded by theater and literature as the daughter of Leon Strydom, an award-winning South African poet and art professor. At the age of four, she dictated her first book to her kindergarten teacher.
Anna went to the Boland College of Education after school and got her first teaching job in Cape Town at the age of 21. She taught Grade 2 for four years, but she says she was a terrible teacher because she spent most of her time with the students reading stories to them in secret rather than teaching them anything. However, it was here that she really grasped the significance of stories because the children in her class not only performed exceptionally well in their academic work, but they also had significantly higher levels of self-confidence, vocabulary, and creativity than their peers.
She established her own production company in 2006, through which she would write and produce over 3,000 original stories for children, the majority of which were recorded and distributed as audiobooks. Over the years, numerous local celebrities have provided narration for Anna’s stories for children. Her business received the Afrigrowth Award for Small Business of the Year in 2015. In South Africa, her children’s books had become a household name by the time Anna closed the business in 2020.
Anna has self-published 5 children’s books, 17 young adult books, 2 collections of short stories, 21 romance novels, 4 suspense novels, and 38 novellas, demonstrating her versatility as an entrepreneur. She also produced four plays and 12 plays for children’s theater.
As a child her greatest fear was that she would stop writing. So she didn’t.
Bartholomew’s in Love is available in paperback (£10.99) and Kindle format (£4.99 or free via Kindle Unlimited) on Amazon at https://amzn.to/3WlkFjE and https://amzn.to/3zuvFBg.
