In today’s digital age, where nearly a quarter of five- to seven-year-old children in the UK own a smartphone, Mark Laskey’s Scroll the Troll couldn’t be more relevant. This engaging children’s book offers a timely and thought-provoking exploration of the darker side of online interactions.

Laskey’s debut novel tells the story of the peaceful village of Agoo, which is plagued by a menacing troll. Through the villagers’ unwavering resilience and commitment to kindness, they ultimately triumph over the troll’s attempts to sow discord and unhappiness.

Laskey’s narrative skillfully highlights the emotional toll that online negativity can have on individuals and communities. By emphasizing the importance of treating others with kindness and respect, he offers young readers valuable lessons for navigating the digital landscape.

Scroll the Troll has captivated young readers and their parents alike, receiving rave reviews for its engaging storytelling and important message. This book is a must-read for families looking for a thought-provoking and entertaining tale that resonates with the challenges of our modern world.

Mark Laskey is 35 years old, married with two young children; Poppy aged 3 and Finley aged 19 months.

Children are ever increasingly being introduced to technology and I wanted to try help highlight a very important and serious topic but deliver it in a way that can connect with a younger audience. This in turn could help create positive conversations between the reader and the children.

Having children gave me the inspiration to create a children’s book. It’s not something I ever thought I could achieve, and it certainly came as a shock to friends and family.

Writing children’s books is a million miles away from my day job as a landscape gardener, however I find it my escapism from the struggles of everyday life.

I create these stories just on my mobile when I’m walking Jack my dog at typically 4:30am so I can be back in time before the children wake up.

However, I never thought these stories would go any further then just reading them to my children at bedtime, but my wife pushed me to bring a story to life and after sourcing an illustrator (Steve Evans), we created Scroll the Troll, which my wife, Amy and dog, Jack feature in to the excitement of my children.
