On The Table Read, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Katy Jordan’s Colour Coded finds Bullet, a girl with a past she doesn’t want to come to the fore, leaving Prismatic and joining the Scottish underground organisation – Colour Coded. But when Prismatic boss, Neon, begins to threaten Colour Coded’s unbreakable rule of no names, no past, no nothing, Bullet needs to take action.
A novel that captured its readers’ imaginations from the outset, Colour Coded is a thriller that jumps out from the mainstream for several reasons.
Firstly, it is set in Scotland (Katy Jordan hails from Stirling) and secondly (and most importantly) the author’s character development, good vs evil plot and the maturity demonstrated by her wordsmithing, all give this novel the credibility that it was penned by a more experienced writer, rather than one at the start of her literary career.
Page-turning and delighting readers with its gutsy and super savvy protagonists, the good news is that the second instalment – Colour Coded: The Silver Sparrow – is already with the publishers, and further are planned.
A gifted young author, Katy Jordan has ticked all the boxes when it comes to delivering a standout read.
Having a dark past, she left it all behind… At least she tried to. When Bullet moved from Prismatic to Colour Coded, her previous boss, Neon, did everything in his power to win her back. But, knowing the kind of man he was, she did not accept any of his pleas. After his begging turns into threats, Bullet and the rest of Colour Coded are forced into a dangerous chess game as a means of not only protecting their own, but protecting their pasts. In the end, a choice must be made.
What means more to her, her Colour Coded family… or her horrific history she has shielded for so many years?
“Being creative, in any way, is when I feel I’m at my happiest, as well as conveying my full potential. Story-telling is a medium of creativity that I’ve been passionate about since I was a child, living vicariously through some of the most beloved fictional characters in my favourite make-believe worlds.
“My writing experience began in 2013 through film, when I outlined my first story and wrote my first script for a project called ‘Girl Talk’.
“Cut to 2018, where I have planned and outlined an idea for a project called ‘Colour Coded’. From the moment I began typing, I felt completely fulfilled and terrified in equal measure; writing a book was an endeavour that I’d always dreams of doing and never pursued before. On 31st August 2019, ‘Colour Coded: The Black Bullet’ was on sale through all major retailers, thanks to Austin Macauley Publishers.
“I did it. I am officially an author.
“I’m an award winning filmmaker that wanted a new challenge. As an autistic person, I never thought I’d have a book published, and yet, here we are. My writing this book is somewhat a testament to how my mental state was at the time – wishing for an environment that was as close to that of a family, that gave one a sense of purpose, but where one didn’t have to explain or owe anything to anyone.”
Published by Austin Macauley Publishers, Colour Coded: The Black Bullet is available in paperback (£9.05) and Kindle format (£3.50 or free via Kindle Unlimited) on Amazon at https://amzn.to/3AXXp2N and https://amzn.to/3PB96R2
