On The Table Read, “The Best Book Reader Magazine in the UK“, Omara Williams’ The Space Traveller’s Lover delves into our current understanding of life and the universe, as we know it. But, in the face of irreversible climate change, what would be the fate of humankind?
Set at the end of the 21st century, author Omara Williams takes the reader on a journey to the edge of world annihilation.
The Space Traveller’s Lover
As much a romance as it is science fiction adventure, The Space Traveller’s Lover is fast-paced, questioning and is ultimately a story of triumph against all odds.
With an intriguing and emotionally fuelled storyline, this well developed, and character driven novel also puts to good use the author’s tech savviness and expertise acquired as a science graduate and software programmer.
Originally from Cubabut living in the UK for many years, this is the author’s first published work in English. Setting the bar high for future endeavours, fans of this novel will be eager to read more from what is quite a rare breed – a female sci-writer.
Story Of The Space Traveller’s Lover
It is the end of the twenty-first century. Droughts and floods have left Earth on the brink of collapse, with limited resources and habitable land. Erin Lobart, a bright young student living on the remote island of Tinian with her adoptive parents, is partnering with rescue teams to deliver food and medicine that is barely keeping civilisation afloat. On her sixteenth birthday, Erin and her best friend, Sam, make a startling discovery.
Ten thousand years ago, an alien race was driven from Earth by ancient humans. Now they have returned to Earth using perfect human replicas to understand and eventually control the human mind. Stronger, invincible, immortal, and with a technical superiority beyond comprehension, the Rom-Ghenshar are fuelled by a zest for revenge while plundering Earth’s remaining resources.
As Erin realises her life is inevitably linked to the aliens and that she is Earth’s only chance for survival, she struggles to decide where her loyalty lies. But as she is about to learn, only her newfound love has the power to determine her destiny and that of humanity.
In this exciting science fiction adventure, a determined youngster sets out on a quest to save Earth from a ruthless alien race intending to exact revenge on us.
Omara Williams
“Amidst the complete devastation of our planet, this inspirational love story brings about a sense of hope and expectation as the main characters confront their intense feelings and discover that their deep love for each other is the one thing they cannot live without.”
Omara Williams says: “I was born in Cuba, and from a very early age, I was very interested in science, reading and writing. At 17, I finished my first handwritten book; a collection of children’s stories, which my friends and family enjoyed. But I had so many other interests and hobbies, so I did not see writing as something that I should pursue and instead, I took it only as a pastime.
I concentrated my efforts on my university degree and my passion for software programming and astronomy projects. Writing became something that I used to do.
“When I got married, I came to live in the UK, and four years later, my daughter was born. Now and then, I used to find myself wondering, “What if I started writing again?”
“I believe that it is never too late when you are determined to achieve something, so I started my science fiction novel, writing in any spare time I had.
“Writing a book in English was an amazing challenge for me, plus I had to do it while working full-time. It has taken me five years to see my book project finished, and I hope readers find it as fascinating as I do.”
