MANCHESTER, September 10 2021 – Ripples of Hope, a festival celebrating the power of people to make human rights a reality for all, is offering free weekend tickets to community groups across Greater Manchester.

Organised by Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights (RFK Human Rights), the Ripples of Hope Festival will take place at Manchester’s HOME from 17-19 September. This unique event has a packed schedule of talks and discussion panels in which poets, authors, activists, business leaders and many more will come together to examine the challenges that communities face today and to inspire people to take action. The festival will cover three major themes:

Complimentary passes are available to community groups and non-profit organisations in Greater Manchester on a first-come-first-served basis via this link.

Dennis Marcus, Executive Director at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights adds: “We are delighted to welcome community groups from across Greater Manchester to this year’s festival. The event will be a celebration of the work carried out by people and groups around the world to advance human rights.

With a stellar line-up of artists, campaigners, authors, and political figures, we encourage people to claim their seat for all or part of the festival and join the conversation on the issues impacting communities around the world.”

Weekend line-up:

Friday September 17 kicks off by exploring the theme of Dignity & Justice and covers issues surrounding criminal justice, the rights of the homeless, masculinity and violence, modern-day slavery, and more. Activism & Participation steers the second half of the day, delving into community life and how individuals can shape our society. Speakers on the day include human rights barrister Baroness Helena Kennedy QC and renowned poet Simon Armitage.

Saturday September 18 will focus on Equity and Equality, exploring sexual and gender rights, migration and marginalised communities, racism and privilege, and the attitudes of different global governments to human rights. ‘Last Night I Dreamed of… Manchester?’ – one of many panel discussions on the day – will look at the experience of migrants arriving in Manchester to start a new life. Saturday speakers include ‘Cut from the Same Cloth’ author Sabeena Akhtar and campaigner Peter Tatchell.

The final day, Sunday September 19, will address Environment and the Planet, with discussions on food politics, the design of cities, the future of sustainable fashion, young climate activists, indigenous knowledge, and more. Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham will share his vision for a “human rights city” and is joined on Sunday by Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi and many more.
