On the Table Read Magazine, “the best music magazine in the UK“, dark pop artist Reya has released her new single, Kinda Like It.

Reya

Dark pop artist Reya comes from London and writes songs that come straight from the heart. Reya is originally from Norway but grew up in Spain, where she has Chilean ancestry. This multicultural upbringing is a key part of her distinctive sound and style. Despite the fact that Reya has recently rebranded after previously creating music under a different name, her roots continue to play a significant role in her story.

Reya

It has been a rollercoaster ride for Reya to get to where she is today. The singer, songwriter, and producer has been studying for her final bachelor’s degree year in music production for the past year. During that time, she has released six singles, been featured on Norwegian national radio and introduced by the BBC, and performed a number of shows in London, the highlight of which was supporting the Norwegian treasure DAGNY at her London show and her subsequent show in Norway.

Reya is beginning a new chapter under a new name and is finally creating music with people she loves that she has complete control over. Taking back control is essentially the underlying theme in her new music. Step by step, and one way to do this was to take charge and say no to certain behaviors. This shift can be extremely challenging, but in the long run, living for someone else rather than for yourself is even harder. The challenges of growth are always worth choosing. The new sound is much more raw and real, showing strength over oneself and reminding us that endings also mean new beginnings at the same time.

Kinda Like It

Following the arrival of her proud track “Attention” which describes embracing your identity, Reya has released her fiery new single, “Kinda Like It”. After being disrespected for a long time, Reya uses this single to put herself in the villain’s shoes to fight back, and realises she kinda likes it. The track has a dark and eerie sound to it, and the lyrics and menacing beat transport listeners to the dark side of Reya.

Reya explained that “Kinda Like It” was written during a time when she felt like I was constantly being wronged by someone, and she put up with it for too long. She wanted to imagine herself harming them in the same way that they harm other people. However, she was well-educated by her mother to the point where she could only imagine inflicting such negative karma through a song, which satisfied her. It is, in essence, a method of transferring power to oneself and enjoying the control that comes with it.

This new chapter for Reya is already proving to be an explosive one, having received praise from publications like Earmilk, Wonderland Magazine, and Atwood Magazine, to name a few.
