On The Table Read, “the best creativity magazine in the UK“, wine innovator Sebastian Schier, Managing Director of vinID, shows how NFT phygital technology is set to change the industry, beyond the flashy NFT art collaborations and metaverse hype.

Bordeaux Forgeries

Summer tourism is in full swing, and tourists are venturing to wine rich cities such as Bordeaux and other historical wine destinations. The rise in tourism within these cities also ignites concerns of fake and counterfeit wine.

Following the recent Bordeaux forgeries, the need for product authentication is high. vinID ensures the proof of authentication for vintage or newly produced bottles, and can be used as a cataloguing tool for wine collectors who have a digitally twinned cellar.

vinID App

vinID, is an app that allows users to tap their phone on the neck of a tagged wine bottle to learn about its origins, history and receive updates from its producer.

Vintners are using vinID as a way to tell the story behind each bottle, overcoming the snobbism associated with wine appreciation. It is a way for consumers with any level of wine knowledge to learn about the origins, grapes and production as well as the people who made it, to expand their knowledge, enhance the tasting experience and spark conversation between friends.

With vintners diversifying their techniques, for example; looking at biodynamic methods, and organic cultivation in response to consumer demand, they are also looking at how technology can support the marketing and authentication of their products.

A fast growing company, there are already over 10,000 vinID tagged bottles out there, 3,811 bottles alone sold in this year’s famous VDP.Rheingau wine auction. It is also a way for wine producers to communicate with their customers in a personalised way.
