At the age of 8, I fell in love with hand-embroidery and regularly returned to this artform throughout my life. I could get lost in it for hours and although at the time I didn’t know, I had discovered a powerful and effective form of meditation.
Creating with hands has always been very fascinating to me. It holds magic as it has the power to transform raw materials into beauty – an almost alchemical process.
It was a complete rediscovery for me, of a world of magic and wonder, meditation and inner peace. When my family and I returned to London in 2017, I took a leap of faith, and I decided to transform what I so much loved into a business.
I have lived in several countries and continents, I have met many people and experienced amazing cultures. Certainly the places around the world in which I have lived have been a great source of amazement and surprise to boost my imagination.
I can find inspiration in a person, in a word, in a place, in a building. Surely an art exhibition, a play at the theatre, a costume, a scenography can captivate my attention and inspire my creativity, making space for new ideas to come to life.
My creative process starts from the idea that sparks in my head,. I can imagine it almost knocking at my soul to become something tangible.
It starts then the work of sketching, drawing, painting: pencils, pens and brushes are my tools to transform something ethereal into something visual.
Once I decide the colour palette, the next step is the creations of samples: fabrics, stitches, colour combinations are translated from paper to a fabric, while the words that will complement the design start forming in my head.
I don’t take a decision straight away. I normally need to take the distance, a few days while what has been created stands brewing in a special part of my brain. Till I will go back to the samples with a much clearer idea,. I will go through the material produced and I can already visualize the final result of the projects while allowing me to make as many changes as needed along the way.
The making can start. The transfer of energy to the final piece can find its expression. The process of flowing from my head to the external world can begin.
