On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Gal Musette has released a new serendipotous musical tale, Moment.

Gal Musette

Grace Freeman, who goes by the name Gal Musette, started writing lyrics for piano and guitar and performing at open mics in her hometown of San Clemente, California at the age of 10. Gal started recording a musical collection, 70 Love Songs, when she was 14 years old, inspired by The Magnetic Fields’ triple album 69 Love Songs. This got the band’s attention and got her an opening slot on a few of their Midwestern U.S. tour dates.

Gal Musette

In later years, Gal has opened for a few stars, including Macy Gray, Suzanne Vega, Todd Snyder, and Donavon Frankenreiter. While her artist name is taken from bal-musette, the accordion-based, waltz-style French instrumental music, Gal’s musical inspiration is drawn from songwriters including Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor, Björk, Cocteau Twins, Burt Bacharach, and The Cure.

Backwards Lullaby

In October 2021, Gal released her debut album, Backwards Lullaby, including a duet with one of her greatest inspirations, Rufus Wainwright. The record explores the aches of irredeemable sentiments and lonely love, what it resembles to move past glorified love into the acknowledgment of what is genuine and consistent, as well as the recurrent idea of life and love in connections.

In July 2022, Gal delivered a symphonic EP comprising of three rethought cuts from Backwards Lullaby, highlighting the musicianship of Via Mardot, a gifted multi-instrumentalist from Detroit, Michigan.

Gal’s 2022 single “Je vois le ciel” is a tune sung completely in French with verses vigorously roused by surrealist French verse. The track highlights traditional roused piano, tormenting theremin (performed again Via Mardot), and a lot of harmonies which marvelously interlace with differentiating bass and drums, driving the tune with a reliable score while establishing the eccentric high pitch tones.

Moment

Her new single “Moment” channels feelings of grief and loss featuring bittersweet melodies over esoteric chamber pop soundscapes.

Gal Musette wrote one verse for her new single, Moment, seven years ago before she lost the paper with the lyrics on and, over time, almost completely forgot the melody. Years later, after experiencing a significant personal loss, she was battling to communicate her pain and fell into a devastating time of a creative slump. By a stroke of luck, the verse reappeared on a flded up piece of paper in her glove box, which set off a memory of the tune, and she was able to finish writing her song.

“Je vois le ciel”, “Level” and “Moment” are songs leading up to Gal Musette’s upcoming album, Pendulum, due out this summer.
