Now, the talented pianist has signed a recording contract with Modern Sky Records and released his debut single, “Eve & Frank,” a heartfelt tribute to his foster parents. This poignant track is a glimpse into his upcoming album, a deeply personal and emotionally charged collection of songs recorded at the legendary RAK Studios.

Brad Kella’s debut single, “Eve & Frank,” is a poignant tribute to his foster parents, capturing the essence of the performance that won him Channel 4’s The Piano. Arranged by the renowned Rosie Danvers, the song showcases Brad’s exceptional talent as both a pianist and a composer.

They sent me down to RAK Studios in London to record an album. Some of the best string players in the world were there, reading through pages of manuscript, but I managed to get through the whole session – eight hours – just remembering it off the top of my head, because I can’t read music. I was thirteen when I first saw a piano, now I’m twenty-three, so I feel like I was born to do it.

Growing up in the working-class suburb of Bootle, Liverpool, Brad Kella’s life took an unexpected turn. Placed into foster care at a young age due to family circumstances, he found solace and inspiration in music. Despite facing challenges, including dropping out of school and experiencing homelessness, Brad’s passion for piano never wavered.

A chance encounter led to a viral video of him playing piano in Liverpool One, catching the attention of producers from Channel 4’s The Piano. This opportunity propelled Brad to national recognition, with renowned pianist Lang Lang praising his remarkable talent and unique approach to music.

Brad’s music is deeply personal, reflecting his own experiences and emotions. His ability to learn and compose music by ear, without formal training, sets him apart as a truly gifted artist. With his soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Brad Kella is poised to make a significant impact on the music industry.

After seeing that teacher play piano in high school, I went home and asked my foster parents – Eve and Frank – if I could have a piano, which just seemed like a pipe dream. At first they got me a keyboard, and I picked it up really quickly. Then there was this government grant available to kids who’d been fostered, which funded an electric piano for me.

I just applied for the show, expecting nothing to come of it. I went into the Manchester audition wearing a tracksuit… not looking like a piano player at all. But they were blown away, they said. I played one of my own songs. Everyone was advising me not to, because other contestants were playing classical standards, and it was a risk. But Lang Lang and Mika, the judges, they loved it.

I love the all-time greats, like Hans Zimmer and John Williams. Then more recent artists like Ludovico Einaudi and Yann Tiersen. And I’d definitely say my music teacher from school, Andrew Peckham-Morris, because without him none of this would have happened. As far as composers go, my favourite has to be Chopin, because he’s a poet of the piano. That’s the only way I can put it.
