On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, multifaceted singer-songwriter, artist, musician, and producer, Party Nails, has released an irresistible and magnetic alt-pop single, First Responder, about letting go of a toxic relationship.
First Responder
Originally conceived as a country song, Party Nails‘ latest single, “First Responder,” showcases the artist at her most collaborative. Facing a creative block, Elana Carroll (aka Party Nails) presented a guitar-vocal demo to co-producer Ben Greenspan, whose production work was prominent on her second album, You Don’t Have To Go Home But You Can’t Stay Here.
While bass is a cornerstone of her sound, the driving bass line in “First Responder” wasn’t her own creation. Instead, she was captivated by a take from Jordan Brooks, a collaborator of Greenspan’s. With these key elements in place, Carroll enriched the track with additional vocal harmonies, synth layers, and a soaring guitar solo featuring a harmony line by Vixen. She then completed the process by expertly mixing the record herself.
Without naming names, I was so tired of dropping everything to soothe someone who seemed to always have an emergency. I felt like my loyalty was being taken advantage of. I felt like I needed to take a stand for my own peace. And I wanted there to be a bit of humor in the songwriting as well.
I could hear in my head how I wanted it to sound, so I went ahead and did that. Ben heard this Princey, Linn drum thing immediately, and it blew my mind!

Party Nails
Before becoming Party Nails, Elana Carroll was a guitar-wielding tween, performing at every open mic near her hometown of Chatham, New York. These early experiences, coupled with her early forays into music technology using GarageBand, fostered a lifelong passion for both.
Party Nails debuted in 2015 on Neon Gold’s renowned blog with the single “Break,” quickly captivating audiences. Her 2017 tour alongside PVRIS and Lights solidified a dedicated fanbase, and her electrifying live shows, a captivating blend of Madonna, Hayley Williams, and Sheryl Crow, remain a cornerstone of her artistry.
Carroll’s versatility extends beyond her own music. She composed “Rockin’ on the Rag,” a song celebrating period pride, for Loren Bouchard’s animated Apple series Central Park. She also co-wrote and produced the Le Tigre-infused “Supernatural” for feminist rock duo Deap Vally. Additionally, her vocals have graced the work of numerous artists, including LŪN, Urban Heat, Battle Tapes, MitiS, and Getter.
Her music has been featured in films and television shows such as Glass, Girls, The L Word: Generation Q, Nancy Drew, and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, and has garnered critical acclaim from publications like Billboard, PAPER, Noisey, Earmilk, and Paste. Her work has also been featured on prominent Spotify playlists such as Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, and Undercurrents.
A prolific artist, Carroll operates Top Coat, a Los Angeles-based recording studio where she records, produces, and mixes for other artists alongside her own projects. For her long-awaited third album, Pillow Talk, Carroll has partnered with Eye Knee Records, an independent label founded by musicians Holly Miranda and Amb. Parsley, and expertly guided by label head Elissa Young.
