On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, Naomi Cahen’s memoir, On My Own Two Wheels, chronicles her solo cycling journey from London to Lausanne, a transformative experience of self-discovery and personal growth.
A novice cyclist, Cahen embarked on this extraordinary adventure to heal from heartbreak and rediscover her independence. With raw honesty and a touch of humor, she shares her daily experiences, from planning her route and packing her bike to navigating challenging terrains and encountering unexpected obstacles.
Cahen’s insightful observations about human nature, the beauty of the natural world, and the transformative power of solo travel elevate her memoir beyond a mere travelogue. Her vivid descriptions of the English and French countryside, coupled with her charming illustrations, transport readers to the heart of her journey.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or simply seeking inspiration, “On My Own Two Wheels” is a heartwarming and thought-provoking read.
Born in 1986, Naomi Cahen spent her formative years by a serene lake, immersed in a world of French and English. Her childhood home, filled with objects imbued with personality, sparked her imagination. Today, she resides and works in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she seamlessly transitions between the roles of author, designer, and autistic advocate. Her co-written short film, “Action,” was recognized with a 2023 Swiss Film Award nomination.
Lynette Raven, a skilled linguist with a Master’s degree in Translation, established Raven Translation Press in 2023. Her extensive experience as a translator, interpreter, and English teacher in France and Switzerland has equipped her with a deep understanding of cultural nuances. She currently enjoys a peaceful life in Norfolk with her husband and their beloved dog, Rollo.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer one month after setting up my publishing business and signing the contract for the English foreign rights to translate Naomi’s book. Translating was a huge distraction and searching for that perfect English word or expression helped me get through some dark days. (My father had died of cancer just seven months beforehand – what a year!) What with my cancer and Naomi’s autism, we’re a right pair, but both determined that this project will succeed!
Naomi and I met at the British Centre for Literary Translation summer school, at the University of East Anglia, in July 2023 when the French cohort, that I was part of, studied extracts of her book.
