On The Table Read, “the best arts magazine in the UK“, Fall In Love / Apart is the new EP from Norwegian alt pop artist, Hanne Mjøen, with euphony-flowing fables and flourishing energy.

Hanne Mjøen

Norwegian alt-pop artist, Hanne Mjøen, isn’t your typical pop star. Her music has an intoxicating sound with a dark, raw edge and lyrics that make you want to cry and dance, reminding listeners that it’s okay to be flawed. Her lyrics encourage you to let out the emotions that you’ve been holding onto.

Hanne Mjøen is just a girl from a small town who is alone in the world. She was born in Oppdal, a small mountain village, the daughter of a salesman and a hairdresser. She had never imagined herself as a pop star, she only wanted to sing and write songs, hoping that they would make an emotional connection with someone else. She was drawn to pop music because of its booming choruses, spine-tingling chord progressions, and love, longing, and betrayal-themed lyrics, not because of its popularity.

Fall In Love/Apart

In this much-anticipated new chapter, Hanne Mjøen describes the stages and difficulties of being in a relationship. The love makes you happy, but putting yourself last makes you unhappy. She fell in love, but she also broke down. After keeping the truth from herself for so long, she is on this journey to find the courage to say it as it is, and she is bringing you along for the ride.

She brings euphonious fairy tales to life with the flourishing energy she continues to possess so brightly in her return EP, Fall In Love/Apart. Songs like “Distance” and “I Never Told You” combine heart-pounding basslines and ethereal synthesizers to explore the trials of love and loss.

“‘I have a bad habit of distancing myself to people as soon as I feel like I’m not being seen,” explained Hanne Mjøen. “Talking about how I feel isn’t something I do naturally, and I start acting out and changing desperately to get a confrontation, and then forcing myself to speak about it to defend my actions. It’s a very bad way of handling things, but in my head it feels more natural to cut the tires than to fix them. “Distant” is describing the desperation you feel when people can’t see the way you’re trying to tell them that something is wrong.”

In Fall In Love / Apart, Hanne Mjøen’s unflinching authenticity and humble resonance are brought to life with captivating musicality. Her upcoming musical endeavor exemplifies the admirable strength that can come from being vulnerable.

Hard To Love

After “Bad For My Health” and “Hard to Love,” she brings her stories to life with the same intricate detail that fans continue to adore.

”Hard To Love tells the tale of being a complex person,” said Hanne Mjøen. “Everyone has bad sides and struggles and through the lyrics I wanted to put mine on the table, letting the one you love know that if you want a love of eternal sunshine, I’ll give you the opposite. I’ll make it hard for you to love me cause unfortunately I’m not a perfect person either.”

Hard To Love also featuring artist Ryland James. “Working on “Hard To Love was a really beautiful experience,” he shared. “This type of collaboration isn’t something I’ve ever been part of as an artist and to be able to help bring Hanne’s vision to life by lending my voice to it is quite special. I’ve been through this feeling many times in my relationships with people close to me, and I think it’s something the vast majority of the population also feels at some point or another during the course of their lives. Sometimes it’s nice to know you’re not the only one in the world who can feel unloveable or difficult to handle from time to time. It’s a very normal part of the human experience.”

Hanne Mjøen’s Career

Hanne Mjøen’s music has been streamed more than 23 million times to date, receiving airplay in more than 25 countries, including Annie Mac and BBC Radio 1. She was praised by Rolling Stone, The Line Of Best Fit, Paper Mag, Wonderland Mag, and 1883 Mag, among others, and she was the seventh most played artist on Norwegian radio in 2021.

In addition to the release of a bonus EP track in the new year, 2023 is anticipated to be an explosive year for Hanne Mjøen!
