On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, My Life Among the Cannibals released the first song, Hey Jen, from their upcoming EP, in celebration of National Jennifer Day.
Hey Jen
Austin based band, My Life Among The Cannibals, recently released their new single, Hey Jen, from their upcoming EP, tentatively titled Exile on Pain Street, slated for release in Autumn 2024.
The story behind the Hey Jen is that I have a friend who works in a business, and I noticed that mutual friends were treating her poorly and taking her for granted. I wanted to write something in appreciation of all the things she does and is about.
-singer/songwriter Timothy Abbott
Hey Jen Lyrics
Hey Jen
Thanks for all you do
Laboring away so thorough…
You keep the lights on
You keep the show running
If not for you
this would be no fun at all
Hey Jen
You really do believe
when at times I confess my Faith does waver…
You always cheer me up
when I’m down on my luck
and I can’t thank you … ever enough
[Chorus]
Jen you are so loyal to the situation
it touches me to the core
I know some days you ache inside
and hope for so much more
Hey Jen
Everything is broken
without you to patch it up, my dear sister…
Not enough duct tape in the world
to replace what you stick together
[Chorus]
You are so loyal to the situation
it touches me to the core
It’s my sentimental education
I forgot about so long ago
[bridge]
Sometimes you may think no one notices
all the little things you do
You juggle the 10 worlds on your shoulders
and we all need to tell you [ break ]
we love you…[ “and thank you!” , shouted in background]
~~~solo over verse~~~
~~Chorus~~
Yes, you are so loyal to the situation
it touches me to the core
You make this place so much better
than it was before…
Hey Jen
Hey Jen
Hey Jen
Hey Jen
My Life Among The Cannibals
Hailing from the heart of Austin’s vibrant music scene, My Life Among The Cannibals delivers a sound as unique as their name. Fronted by the powerful vocals of Timothy Abbott, the band weaves a tapestry of musical influences that defies easy categorization.
Max Murphy conjures electrifying riffs on guitar, while the rhythm section of Jason Toll on drums and Leonard Ashcraft on bass lays down a groove that’s both infectious and tight. Adding another layer of sonic exploration, Jimmy George lends his talents not only to backing vocals but also to the piano, further enriching the band’s sonic palette.
The magic, however, doesn’t stop at performance. My Life Among The Cannibals takes complete creative control, with Jimmy George handling the recording, mixing, and mastering duties at The Roost Studio in Manchaca, TX. This DIY spirit ensures their sound is a true reflection of their artistic vision.
