Necklaces & Knickers

Page turning memoir, Necklaces & Knickers by J.S. Raynor, engrosses readers in the relationship between author John and his new love, Carole.  Giving credence to the old adage, that one never knows what goes on behind closed doors, Raynor shares the realities of starting a new relationship whilst also living with a disability.

The year was 1991, and  forty-six year old John Raynor’s life was a mess, living on his own, two years after his divorce, with a bleak looking future. To make things harder, John had been registered as blind since 1979. Then he met Carole, a divorcee two years his junior, and suddenly everything changed. While their bond was immediate and intense, some days Carole would need him, both physically and emotionally, but the next, she would be secretive, cool and distant.

During the sixteen turbulent months chronicled in Necklaces & Knickers, John travelled to Paris, Amsterdam and Singapore and made many close female friends, but Carole had stolen his heart.

To be sure that time has not changed his memories of their relationship in the 30 years since events occurred, John used the detailed diaries he wrote at the time to recount the split personality of his new love to create this intriguing, sometimes disturbing, and highly compelling read.

Using his computer equipped with speech synthesis for his creative writing (and his work as a software developer), this talented author not only knows how to entertain his readership, but also keeps them guessing as to the real meaning behind his intriguing title.

J.S. Raynor

Born in 1944 in Oldham, Lancashire, John Stephen Raynor was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a serious progressive eye condition.

At fifteen, he began working in Architecture, before becoming a software developer and marrying his first wife in 1967. After becoming self-employed by 1980, John spent long hours building up his business before moving to Sale in 1983. The couple separated in 1989 after the work took its toll on his marriage.

In 1991 he thought he had found a new partner, and kept a detailed diary of the sixteen traumatic months of the relationship.

In the Philippines, John finally found his soulmate, and married Aleth in 1993, but experienced problems bringing her into the U.K. His wife’s traumatic childhood provided John with a wealth of material for his novel, ‘Cotabato Girl – Filipina’s story.

After thirty years, John used the information from his diaries to publish “Necklaces & Knickers”.
