Steve McElhenny’s The Girl With A Porcelain Face will spook and scare readers as it immerses them in a rollercoaster of a race against time. With his passion for 1980s horror taking center stage, Steve McElhenny combines traditional elements of a ghost story with mystery, intrigue, and (blood) wit, set against the backdrop of one of the most significant decades of the twentieth century.

Teenage protagonist, Willard Jennings is woken from his sleep by a terrible thunderstorm that is raging overhead over the tin mining town of Bleddington in southern England, when he has a vision of a broken and twisted figure that looks like a young girl with a porcelain mask on her face through the brief lightning flashes.

With the unlikely ally of the school bully who has shared similar visions at his side, Willard begins to uncover clues about the girl’s true identity, and learns that the girl’s vengeful spirit may have been the cause of many premature deaths for the Bleddington townspeople. He must figure out who the girl is, how she died, and what she wants in a race against time.

This author’s fifth novel is full of the eccentricity, gloom, and humor that readers have come to expect from him. However, due to some brief graphic scenes of horror that may not be appropriate for younger readers. The Girl With a Porcelain Face is a great place to start if you haven’t read McElhenny’s work before because he is known for not taking himself too seriously.
