On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Gareth Pritchard’s Into the Unknown takes readers deep into the mind of Leon, who has who has been haunted by a strange girl since the age of 7.
Inspired by certain happenings in Gareth Pritchard’s own life, Into the Unknown expertly brings into play suspense, atmosphere, and supernatural elements that make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
The story’s protagonist, Leon, has been having encounters with ghosts since the age of seven. His sister Ellie, doesn’t get along with him most of the time, but his older sister Jessie becomes one of the few people that understands what he is going through. Growing up in their family home they both experience what some would call a haunting within their home.
While for Jessie the haunting’s stop, now he’s all grown up, Leon’s sixth sense has gone into overdrive. Who is the girl that haunts him, and what of the other experiences and encounters that happen to him along the way as he grows up. It is something he will not find answers to until his later years, and even then, nothing is for certain.
Growing up, out on the streets with his friends, Leon just wanted to live a normal life like those around him, and now in adulthood he is desperate to get away from his gift. Unaware of the truth of what he is dealing with, it is his friends that will help him get through his times of depression in adulthood.
The weight he carries falls upon the woman he loves, who is there for him throughout it all. Leon’s life journey is one of mystery and wonder, but also of fear of that which for many will not adventure into the unknown.
A debut novel which is well worth fans of the genre seeking out, Gareth Pritchard deftly demonstrates his understanding of how to get deep into the recesses of a reader’s mind. He also appreciates the need for well-developed characters, psychological realism and consistent rules of logic to ensure a plausibility in what is a very chilling tale.
Gareth Pritchard lives in North Wales and is a fan of the outside world and all its creations.
