On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Uwem Umana’s The Travel Tales Of My Father Mr. Jones And Other Stories unfolds across three stories, centring on Ikpeadiamkpo, who travels to the US expecting to be hosted by old friend Mr Wymne.

The Travel Tales of My Father Mr. Jones – Volume IV

In a world filled with fast-paced schedules and constant distractions, Uwen Umana’s fourth volume of short stories, The Travels Tales of my Father Mr. Jones and Other stories, is a literary gem that draws readers in. This collection was even used for the master’s in literary discourse course in the British University in Dubai.

As protagonist Ikpeadiamkpo shares the highs and lows that go hand in hand with the quest to embrace the American dream, Uwen Umana demonstrates that with a few sentences, complex characters, profound themes, and powerful messages that linger long after the final sentence can be explored.

With detailed observation, which turns ordinary daily occurrences into extraordinary tales, The Travel Tales of My Father Mr. Jones – Volume IV is a continuation of Uwen Umana’s compilation of his life as a teacher and an expatriate living across different cities in the world. Travel Tales of my father Mr. Jones, which is the title of the collection of short stories, sees Ikpeadiamkpo cross climes and cultures for a reunion with his childhood friend, Mr. Wymne, in the US. On arrival, things took an unexpected turn which changed the course of Ikpeadiamkpo’s life completely.

In this suspense-filled tale, written in three parts, we see how a person’s destination and destiny in life, is defined by fate, relationship, and nature. It features other short stories exploring the themes of family life and relationships that govern the human existence.

The collection delves into the profound idea that when people make promises to people, they forget that a date will always be kept with posterity. It’s a thought-provoking collection that promises to engage readers in a deep intellectual and emotional journey. To cap it all, this volume explores the rich cultural diversity of human existence.
