Heal

Waiting For Smith have released the stunning music video for Heal, the latest track from the six-track EP Trying Not To Try. The EP was produced and co-written by Dane Etteridge with Lewis Capaldi, Declan J. Donovan, and StLundi.

Harry Lloyd of Waiting For Smith sat in a studio and meditated for eight hours a day for the video for “Heal.” On a nearby street, people were asked the following question: What would you like to be healed? After that, they were asked to write their responses on his body. There were participants speaking approximately 17 different languages and representing all nationalities. The volunteers were able to let go of what they didn’t need by being listened to and heard, and the idea was that a still, nonjudgmental presence would be the ideal surface for writing.

Mental health and progress are at the center of Trying Not to Try’s themes. While that sounds like hard work, the razor-sharp melodies and hooks that are instant earworms, and the topics are tackled with lightness and optimism.

“Over the past few years I’ve been on a real search to explore my mind while pursuing music, beginning with a year in bed after an accident,” explained Harry Lloyd of Waiting For Smith. “I read and watched everything I could to be inspired. I tried many forms of therapy and healing in search of a calmer approach to life’s ups and downs – realising I couldn’t control my life but I could control how I reacted to it. The EP came out of those early discoveries of philosophy, meditation and The Tao Te Ching. This all helped to find out what I was looking for: Ask for it, and then let go of the outcome. And that is the meaning of Trying Not To Try.”

Waiting For Smith

Harry Lloyd, who was 24 when he broke his back and spent a year in recovery, decided to make music his life’s work. Lloyd had always been musical; he started writing songs when he was 7 and played drums and piano at the same age. After being in bed for a year, he learned to play the guitar and started writing songs with a new sense of purpose after finding solace in poetry. After becoming mobile once more, Lloyd formed the band Waiting for Smith, which got its name from the interminable wait for their original drummer Smith, who never showed up.

Waiting For Smith has been played on over 190 stations worldwide since its release in 2019, including KROQ and KISS FM in the United States, Radio One in India, Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Dermot O’Leary and Jo Whiley on Radio 2, Tom Robinson on 6 Music, Maz Tappuni on Radio X, Flux Fm in Germany, Radio Doble Neuve in Lima, Peru, and KROQ and KISS FM in the USA. They have received more than 2000 syncs worldwide, from the United States to Finland and Indonesia. WFS tracks have been used to sound the Japanese Grand Prix, a big Netflix show called “Vis A Vis (Locked Up),” a popular soap in Germany, and the Christmas ad for El Corte Ingles, one of the biggest TV ads in Spain.
