Jude Gorini’s first novel, The Colourblind Grief, recounts a journey of self-discovery from bodacious and mental health damaging excess to sandy beaches and inner peace. Written in the first person, Latino queer protagonist, Daniel shares the tumultuous life experiences from the toxicity of his previous life to the serenity that inhabits his day-to-day a decade later. This confessional novel brings into play all of contemporary life’s big issues, mental health, sexual identity, self-doubt and more.

Set in London in 2011, the year before the Olympics, Daniel is just starting his journey into self-destruction with mental health issues that warp his life. He is living a life of toxic love with sex, drugs and rock & roll as his sustenance.  10 years later, everything has changed. Was it just a lie created by his family, or by his mind?

This journey of death and rebirth, through obsession and healing, towards discovery of the inner self takes place within the gay club scene of East London, before moving to Europe and the serene, sandy beaches of La Graciosa.

Using his own life experiences to inform his writing, Jude Gorini’s poetry has already been garnering favour, but it is the publication of The Colourblind Grief that fast-tracks his reputation to that of  literary tour de force.

Jude Gorini

Jude Gorini (born 1985) is a Latino queer Author, podcaster, and creative artist, and author of two poetry collections: Words/Wars, and Sorry, I’m Mad, both about his personal experience dealing with mental health, bipolar disorder and gender identity. His poem, ‘Mother’ was included in the anthology Wounds I Healed: The Poetry of Strong Women (also from EIF) a bestselling release in 2022.
