On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, Behind the Mask by Lucien P. McGrath is a collection of stories that cuts to the core of humanity, to unravel life’s entire spectrum.
Since Lucien P. McGrath first released his hit novel, Leah’s Father, over half a decade ago, Lucien P. McGrath has carved out hallmarks for crafting fiction that is poignant, uplifting and leaves its readers with plenty to think about.
McGrath’s new collection of short stories, Behind the Mask, takes readers deep into the author’s life and mind. He describes everything from his troubled relationships with bandmates (in ‘The Denny Rose Band’) to the fictional like-minds meeting of a Brit and an American (in ‘A New Housemate’) – and even shares chapters from his original novel (such as ‘The Chinese Woman’).
With the volume in high demand, interested readers are urged to secure their copies without delay.
My goal was to continue giving readers what they want – highly-original fiction they can relate to. But I also include many musings, opinions, experiences and lessons learned from my own life. It’s an incredibly holistic book. My first novel was widely praised for readers’ ability to resonate with the narrative, and this latest collection offers them exactly the same opportunity.
The stories are eclectic and extremely varied, while maintaining a common thread and theme of humanity’s collective experience – mostly driven from my own perspective. We all live it – but we show different outward faces to the world. The stories will definitely push readers to think hard about their own lives!
-Lucien P. McGrath
Born of Irish and Scottish parents in Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, West London, Lucien P. McGrath was raised in Barnet, Hertfordshire, and educated at a Church of England school and St. Alban’s Art College.
On leaving school, he spent two years at Watford Technical College, now, Herts University, training to be a heat and sound insulation engineer for the UK office of a Canadian company. Fierce competition caused the office to close after which he joined the British Army. After training, he was posted to a combat zone in South East Asia where he remained for almost two years.
On his return to the UK, he took a variety of jobs none of which, it seemed to him, had much to offer in the way of a future. His father, an electrical engineer and amateur musician, had taught him to play guitar at an early age and it was this ability that, after several years playing as a semi-professional, he took up full time. He switched to bass in the mid-1960s and soon found himself playing in bands that took him all over the world.
A serious illness put an end to most of his activities and, these days, he spends his time composing and recording music in his digital recording studio at his home in North Wales. He has also written for magazines and has had some success as a digital artist.
