The inspiration for London’s Calling came from attending an AA meeting and a midnight read of Charles Bukowskis ‘Post Office’. A sober morning followed and my feeling to share my own experience with alcohol was stronger than my usual cravings to have a drink.
As the ink flowed and pages were filled with emotion and personal events, it soon became evident that it was a bit all over the place and wasn’t much fun to read. So, embracing my usual default – a night out in the town – I headed, for the first time, to a casino and was befriended by an experienced and independent male escort working in London under the name ‘Noah British’. After a long night of hearing some of Noah’s specific yet nameless and discreet encounters, and how he got into the business of company, I knew I had found the narrative needed to carry my own subplot. London’s Calling is the combination of mine and Noah’s lives.
