On The Table Read, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Party Nails and Boy Sim have released new single, Like U.
Like U
Like U, the new single from singer-songwriter Party Nails, is a dance track co-written and produced by Austin-based queer pop icon Boy Sim. Party Nails said about the song Like U that you can be iconic, true to yourself, and also full of love for others.
The message of Like U is that the best love and support comes from those who want you to shine brightly. She likes to think of it as an homage to Cyndi Lauper’s “I wanna be the one to walk in the sun” line from “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
They even considered releasing it with a warning from the surgeon general: This music may result in vigorous dancing.
Party Nails
Elana Carroll was a teenage songwriter who carried a guitar and performed at any open mic near her home in Chatham, New York, prior to becoming Party Nails.
She wailed lyrics about her family’s divorce, dreams of leaving her small town, and an undiagnosed anxiety disorder while performing solo or with a band of experienced adult musicians backing her across biker bars and community centers. She frequently drew tears from patrons moved by her fearless expression of raw emotion.
She made her own recordings at home using Garageband, which sparked a passion for music technology that she still has today (she works as a software tester and composer for the boutique synthesizer company Noise Engineering).
Party Nail’s Music
Party Nails made her debut in 2015 on Neon Gold’s well-known blog with the single “Break,” a dancepop song about heartbreak that followed in the footsteps of happysad classics like “Dancing On My Own” and “Blue Monday.”
Party Nails released her debut single “No Pressure” in 2016 on the Noisey blog. The song features Taylor Swift melodies and Haim instrumentation before the band left a 360 deal and rebuilt themselves independently. Past Lives and Paychecks, her first full-length album, included collaborations with Mereki Beach, Ryan Nasci, and Caleb Shreve, among others. It was also self-produced, recorded in her home studio, and she also played guitar, bass, and synthesizers.
Her live performances, which are comparable to those of Madonna, Hayley Williams, and Sheryl Crow, continue to be a fundamental aspect of her artistry. Her first tour through the United States in 2017 with PVRIS and Lights brought in a dedicated following.
She continued to lend her vocals to other musicians, with LN and Urban Heat both releasing music featuring Party Nails in 2022, and she wrote and produced the Le Tigre-infused “Supernatural” for feminist rock duo Deap Vally. During the COVID pandemic, she wrote a song for Kathryn Hahn’s character to sing about period pride for Loren Bouchard’s Apple animated series Central Park.
Party Nails will continue to express herself through music, and her best work as an artist is still to come if history is any guide.
