Trash, Baby
Trash, Baby is new single by genre defying explosive duo Snailmate, which Bentley explains details that all too relatable feeling of “struggling with feelings of validation and inadequacy.” A narrator, with his head impaled on a spike is “warning passers-by of the dangers of trying too hard. As the music video illustrates, it’s very easy to go from enamored with something to hating it. Hopefully we can all overcome the negative thoughts and self-sabotaging to become better artists,” he explains of the innovative visuals in their accompanying music video.
Bentley and Kalen of Snailmate are both part of the LGBTQ+ community, with drummer and vocalist Bentley being trans, and vocalist and synth player Kalen identifying as queer. Their live shows are described as a as safe spaces for all genders and people of all sexualities.
Snailmate
The unpredictable and explosive Phoenix-based musical duo, Snailmate, was formed in 2015. The band is made up of lyricist, singer and synth-wizard Kalen Lander, and drummer and backup vocalist Bentley Monet, creating music that fuses synthpunk, grindcore pop, and nerd rap.
Having performed over a thousand shows, Snailmate has cultivated a fervent fanbase that celebrates their frenetic and impressive live shows, which aims to be an inclusive safe space for all genders and people of all sexualities.
Snailmate’s Music
Love in the Microwave was the debut album by Snailmate, released back in 2017, and since then the two have shared a myriad of EPs and singles. Their music focuses on themes such as anxiety, loneliness, isolation, and the experiences of living authentically as queer and trans people in America.

Trash, Baby, their latest release, is about dealing with the voice in your head that says your musci isn’t good enough, and how it creates a complicated relationship with creating art. The song explores themes of vulnerability, inner confidence, and accepting art-making as a beautiful yet imperfect process.
