Overlooking the stunning Lake Windermere on Bowness Bay, Lake View Garden Bar will become the largest bar launch in the region with 480 covers across three floors, once its four-phase renovation is complete.

Lake View Garden Bar

The expansion, led by Hargreaves Enterprises Ltd with a self-funded £1.5 million investment, will see the creation of two new modern terraces at the front of the venue, overlooking the water. And interior spaces created from renovations of the existing house. The development will be in keeping with the Lakes’ traditional features and will upcycle original features from the house, including floorboards, beams, doors and stone to use across the four-phase site.

Throughout the development, Hargreaves Enterprises will also look to increase the sustainability of the venue with ground source heat pumps, and new period double glazing, they are also working alongside Ambleside University, in 2022, to align the business model and explore and understand customer perception into what makes or contributes to a bar or restaurant being Carbon Zero. This project aims to deliver actionable results, which can translate onto the menu, including the introduction of low carbon elements to both the food and drinks offerings. Furthermore, the expansion will create more jobs for locals, as well as give existing staff the opportunity to develop themselves professionally.

Set in a prime location within the Lake District, in the bustling tourist town of Bowness-on-Windermere, Lake View Garden Bar is set on the shore of Windermere. With plans to more than double the site’s capacity, the first phase of the development will launch in April 2022, with a refurb of the current ground floor site (140 covers).

Addition Of New Floor Terrace

Phase two will see the addition of a brand-new first-floor terrace and bar (120 covers), ready for spring. And for summer 2022 the third part will open with the unveiling of the interior of the house on the first floor, providing another 80 covers. The final phase, complete for spring 2023, will bring a large-scale wrap-around terrace adding a further 140 covers.

Founder Stephen Hargreaves CEO and Founder of Hargreaves Enterprises Ltd comments on the development “This is a huge expansion for Lake View Garden Bar, the site’s capacity is more than doubling and we are adding two more levels, all offering prominent sunset views of Lake Windermere.  This development is the perfect location, right opposite of the beautiful Bowness Bay. The Lake District has over 15.8 million visitors per year and over 1 million of them go past our site – we can offer tourists and locals alike the delight of enjoying food and drink in a very special location. Offering 480 covers to the build makes this one of the biggest bar launches to date in the Lake District, something that we are proud to be leading on.”

New Interior Design

The interior for the new three-floor Lake View Garden Bar is led by interior designer Rita Millat, she comments “Lake View Garden Bar has one of the best views in the Lakes, and Lake Windermere is a perfect spot to watch the sun go down – the new terraces will be the ideal spot to sit back, relax and watch the sunset with family and friends. With the interiors we wanted to create an inviting pub feel with a modern twist for guests. The original features from the house will be used as part of the renovation and feature across the new spaces, breathing fresh life into some beautiful, unique fixtures.”

New Lake View Garden Bar

The new Lake View Garden Bar will offer a feast of food, from a Full Cumbrian Breakfast ‘Farm to Fork’, and Fish & Chips, to a Giant Blooming Onion, pizzas, loaded fries, local ice cream and a classic Sticky Toffee pudding – all with the option to takeaway as well as eat in. The bar will feature a wide drinks menu with lager, craft ales, wine, bubbles & fizz, specialty gins, house cocktails and much more!

Guests will be able to make full use of the site in all weathers; in the winter months the outdoor spaces of Lake View Garden Bar will be heated and covered to create a cosy atmosphere whilst keeping those fantastic Lake Views.

Lake View Garden Bar operate as a walk-in establishment, open from 10am – 11pm every day. Times may vary throughout the year and week.
