On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, the beautifully honest and vulnerable honey-soaked new single, Killing It by Amsterdam based artist Elif Dame focuses on letting go.

Elif Dame

Amsterdam based Elif Dame (meaning she who brings light) was born to a jazz pianist and retail-clerk and started practicing her creativity at a young age, inspired by the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and the gospel genre. Soon, her musical passions expanded and shifted through the realms of countless genres. Her first songs were written to beat tapes of MF DOOM, J Dilla and Madlib, and gradually Dame allowed her sound to develop into an eclectic form of alternative R&B. With her lyrics, she explores topics such as her battles with depression and anxiety, insecure attachment and relationship issues, trauma, family drama and addiction.

Between 2020 and 2021, Dame released a slew of singles before her lifelong battle against depression, combined with the pressure to consistently put out new work, took away the joy she previously felt in releasing music. After taking long overdue self-care hiatus, Dame spend a year committing herself to documenting the process of prioritizing her own mental health.

Securely Detached

Elif Dame’s EP, Securely Detached, is the result of this self-care journey of learning to take back her own life and differentiate her own feelings from the feelings of her surroundings. By learning to focus on herself instead of pre-occupying her mind with making other people happy and comfortable, she was able to reframe my co-dependent relationships and get mental health care. Securely Detached is about the important process of learning what it means to put yourself first.

The first single from Securely Detached, Celexa (Buy Me Time), sees Dame opening up about hitting rock bottom and weighing up the options of going on medication. Now, with the latest single, Killing It, she focuses on letting go and starting to feel the benefits of medication, all whilst having doubts about being on the precipice of another manic episode. Featuring warm, honey-soaked vocals and vibey beats from fellow Amsterdam artist GANZ, Killing It has hypnotic melodies to create an all-encompassing atmosphere.

Having garnered nearly half a million streams for her debut single, Elif Dame is heading in the right direction, with Securely Detached set to take her to new heights, as she connects with listeners around the world with her beautifully honest and vulnerable music.
