On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, in John Heley’s The World Descends On Ramsbottom, Bernard Grimshaw’s world becomes overtaken with madcap unplanned adventures – including being abducted twice by aliens.

The World Descends On Ramsbottom

John Heley unleashed his passion for writing when he retired sixteen years ago, and now, with his fifth and possibly best novel yet, The World Descends on Ramsbottom, he has hit the literary sweet spot.

Sharing the unexpected and jaw-dropping adventures of Bernard Grimshaw, The World Descends On Ramsbottom brims with eccentricities that are peculiar to British humour and relationships which are teetering on the edge of catastrophe.

Bernard Grimshaw sees the world very simply; wine making and always being right, but when he is found in a carpark in his underpants, he has some explaining to do. His long suffering wife Margaret believes there is a more prosaic explanation. And, as if life is not hard enough, having blown up her flat, Bernard’s Russian mother, Ingrid, has to move in with them.

When Bernard disappears again and once more found in a carpark, the CIA and Black Ops become interested in him, and life becomes chaotic as the world media descend on his house. It is up to Bernard to make sense of the chaos.

A laugh aloud read that finds its portly and walrus-moustached protagonist Bernard Grimshaw far too intriguing to be the subject of just one novel, readers will be keen to learn if more pandemonium from this Ramsbottom resident is in prospect.
