Matt Mason

When I first created Magic Mole, it was to bring a little magic and wonder into my children’s lives.

Over time, I realised the potential for Magic Mole to not only entertain, but to teach children valuable life lessons. His forgetfulness, clumsiness, and determination make him wonderfully relatable – we’ve all had moments where things haven’t gone quite to plan. But Magic Mole never gives up. In a world where kids are constantly told to be perfect, I wanted to show that mistakes are okay – they’re part of learning. Through this book, I hope young readers see that the magic isn’t in getting everything right, but in the trying and the kindness we show along the way.

Growing up in the suburbs of North London, Matt Mason was immersed in a world of creativity, fueled by his parents’ careers as actors. This early exposure to storytelling and the arts naturally led him to pursue a career in the creative industries.

After graduating from Middlesex University with a degree in Graphic Design, Matt spent years honing his skills in advertising and branding. However, his true passion for storytelling was always present. In 2005, he created the character of Magic Mole to entertain his young children. What began as a bedtime story has now evolved into a beloved children’s book.

Magic Mole’s heartwarming tale of kindness, determination, and learning from mistakes is sure to resonate with young readers everywhere. The character’s endearing flaws and big heart make him a relatable and lovable protagonist.

Today, Matt’s children, now in their 20s, are working alongside him to bring Magic Mole to life. This family collaboration adds a special touch to the book, making it a truly personal and meaningful project.
