Understanding The Role Of Emotions

A Human History of Emotion by Richard Firth-Godbehere is an outstanding explanation of the role emotions have played in history and leaves the reader with a better understanding of their relevance across every aspect of life in the 21st century. It has outsold Michelle Obama and Prince Harry in Colombia and taken the literary world by storm. It has been published in 21 languages and is available to purchase in 40 countries.

This game-changing and insightful read not only is written to be accessible to all, but it also puts emotions back where they should be: center stage in all that we are and do. It shares both cultural variations and how emotions have influenced history (despite the fact that they have only been referred to as emotions for the past 200 years; previously, they were simply feelings).

A Human History Of Emotion

A Human History of Emotion is possibly the book of the year because our desire to learn more about how our actions affect our chances of happiness and success is not going away. Furthermore, Richard Firth-Godbehere appears to have a bright future ahead of him with the paperback edition coming out on February 16th.

A Human History Of Emotion

How have our feelings influenced human history?

And how have our emotions been experienced and understood over time?

We humans like to think of ourselves as rational beings who, as a species, have been able to survive by using logic and calculation. However, emotions played a significant role in a lot of the most significant events in our history rather than hard facts. Without an understanding of emotions, it is impossible to properly comprehend events such as the fall of Rome, the Scientific Revolution, the birth of the world’s major religions, and some of humanity’s bloodiest wars.

From Ancient Greece to Gambia, Japan, the Ottoman Empire, Britain, and beyond, Richard Firth-Godbehere takes readers on a fascinating and extensive tour of the central and frequently under-appreciated role emotions have played in human societies all over the world and throughout history in A Human History of Emotion.

A Human History of Emotion vividly illustrates how our understanding and experience of emotions have changed over time, as well as how our beliefs about feelings – and our feelings themselves – have profoundly shaped us and the world we inhabit, drawing on psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, art, and religious history.
