Piercing Star by Ibin Marriam

In a world often marked by turmoil and uncertainty, Ibin Marriam’s Piercing Star emerges as a luminous collection of poetry, weaving together the threads of personal struggle, spiritual depth, and universal hope. Born from the author’s own navigation through life’s challenges, each verse serves as both a mirror—reflecting the raw, unfiltered human experience—and a beacon, guiding readers toward perseverance through faith. This evocative work, steeped in the Islamic Sufi tradition, offers a literary sanctuary for those seeking solace, inspiration, or a deeper connection to the divine.

At its core, Piercing Star is a celebration of Sufism, the mystical branch of Islam that emphasizes divine love, spiritual union, and ethical living. Marriam’s poetry pulses with these themes, inviting readers into a space where the soul’s longing for transcendence meets the quiet strength of unwavering belief. His verses are not mere words on a page; they are fleeting thoughts captured mid-flight, distilled into offerings of peace, mercy, and blessings. Through this lens, Marriam extends an open hand to all—regardless of faith or background—inviting them to partake in the serenity his poetry exudes.

The collection is as introspective as it is outward-reaching. Marriam lays bare his inner world, exploring the complexities of triumphs and trials with a sincerity that resonates deeply. Yet, he is careful to note that these poems are not a direct reflection of his actions or a definitive statement of his beliefs. Instead, they are a form of self-expression, a solace woven from musings that flit through his mind. This distinction adds a layer of universality to Piercing Star, making it a bridge between the poet’s personal journey and the shared humanity of his readers.

What sets this collection apart is its ability to speak to the soul. For those grappling with difficult times, Marriam’s words offer motivation and a reminder of faith’s enduring power. For lovers of poetry, the collection is a rich tapestry of imagery and emotion, crafted with a lyrical grace that lingers long after the final page. And for anyone curious about Sufism, Piercing Star provides an accessible yet profound entry point into its principles, presented not as doctrine but as lived experience.

In a time when division often overshadows connection, Piercing Star stands as a testament to the unifying potential of art. Ibin Marriam’s poetry transcends cultural and spiritual boundaries, offering readers a chance to pause, reflect, and find light amid the shadows. Whether you’re seeking to reconnect with your faith, draw strength from another’s journey, or simply lose yourself in verses that touch the heart, this collection is a must-read. Through Piercing Star, Marriam not only illuminates his own path but also lights the way for others—a piercing star indeed, shining brightly in the vast expanse of the human spirit.

Ibin Marriam

This poetry came about to me after I been through desperate struggles which was very difficult where I had no choice but to fight back and be mentally strong to come through from the other end of the tunnel in one piece.

I have a feeling that I was given this poetry as a reward for fighting the good fight in my most important battle, the one inside my mind.

In this poetry I took the liberty to speak in the name of the collective human subconscious, I used the first person to refer to the human being. Emphasizing that the most important things in life to everyone is their freedom, happiness, peace, dignity and honour not money fame stardom status.

Also comes with that the realization that humanity is really nothing but one big family. And living life is the art of enjoying life without harming nobody and nothing, underlining the fact that the worst thing in life is intentionally harming or causing hurt to another human being and that this harm and hurt we cause will be the thing we will regret the most in life or the hereafter.

I was born in Somaliland in the early 1970s and spent my childhood in Saudi Arabia after my family moved there. Around 27 years ago, I relocated to the UK, where I have since settled.

Faith and belief have always been central to my life. Though I had never written or recited poetry before, about four years ago, I began working on a book. After submitting it for publication, I unexpectedly found myself drawn to poetry. Over the next six months, I kept writing, and before I knew it, I had enough material to create this poetry collection.

As I compared the two projects, I realised that the poetry carried a stronger message and had a better chance of success. With that in mind, I decided to put my first book on hold and focus on publishing this collection instead.

I never imagined myself as a poet, yet poetic sentences started forming in my mind—beautiful, meaningful lines that I felt compelled to write down before they vanished forever. This poetry emerged during a challenging period of struggles and misfortune, offering me a much-needed sense of hope and renewal. It became a source of strength, allowing me to move forward in life with faith and resilience, embracing whatever destiny has in store for me.
