On The Table Read Magazine, “the best book magazine in the UK“, in Little People by Prof. Paul Griffiths, set during the Covid pandemic, Inspector Bill Painter, is deep in the world of poison and pharmacology with four unconnected high-flying victims.

Little People

In Prof Paul Griffiths’ latest whodunnit, Little People, set against the socially challenging times of the pandemic, wily Inspector Painter is confronted with four seemingly unconnected murders.

When a VIP is poisoned with ricin, and thhen  two more prominent people die the same way, the coroner and Inspector Painter’s boss pile pressure on him to find the culprits, but there are no connections between the victims, nor between the people who had opportunity to poison them. When a fourth case appears, Painter’s job is on the line. Will he be able to work out who is responsible before any more deaths occur?

Jazz loving Inspector Painter is an old-school policeman, unimpressed with younger officers and their university degree certificates. Modern crime, and modern life, challenges him to the limits as he untangles a complex web of intrigue. Set during the Covid-19 pandemic, this contemporary crime takes him into a world of revenge like no other.

As with all his previous Inspector Painter instalments, Prof. Paul Griffiths blends his extensive scientific and medical expertise with his ability to create an intriguing and original crime scene that tests his Protagonist. With the victims in Little People meeting their untimely time through ricin poisoning (the same poison used in 1978 to kill Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov, who was jabbed in the leg on Waterloo Bridge by a man carrying an infected umbrella), Inspector Painter fans will be delighted that the chaos of Covid still finds this old-school copper at the top of his game.
